I spent three days at SC this fall with audi club. It is definitely hard on tires (subjective) but I badly corded all four hoosiers. The best part of this track is how almost every single corner is tightly connected. Most definitely a drivers course. I particularly loved the section in front of the pits leading uphill and to a straight and then at the end of this straight the left hander leading you back around to the turn that drops off and away (lovely, turn in and hardly touch the wheel all the way around).

However I am not a fan of the launch after the bridge, after once or twice I was easing up on my speed approaching it (not point flying the car, suspension, engine, trans abuse) and then the carousel (ZZZZ) but I love the exit leading onto the uphill. The last part is bad and I agree with everyone, too much concrete (hows about some padding in front of that stuff!!) Hay even.

But I like the place, the back straight is plenty fast as I recall but 5th gear like Summit Main. The flow of it is lots of fun, you really are dancing with the car non stop.

Edit: but "not" 5th gear like Summit Main.

You get to 5th gear in a 997 on the back straight? Wow.

He probably short shifts. A lot of people do that, or so I'm told.

Man... major typo. ! Meant to say the back straight is plenty fast (SC) as I recall but "not" 5th gear like Summit Main.

The back straight of SC let me get right on the limiter in 4th, on really good laps 5th was needed but not the norm as the weekend wore on and the brakes and tires wore down.

It is a 996 btw. On summit main straight I usually am in 5th but that was on street tires, again was running out of revs at the end but not worth the upshift, just let off a bit into the braking zone.

put me down in the 'love it' category. it adds variety to the summit experience as well as makes my car punch above its weight. wheras to me summit's design is this: "bzzzzt!-out of t9. bzzzzt!-out of t10... squiggle...squiggle...more squiggle, back to bzzzzt!x2" basically, it's a lot of turning from t1-t9, followed by two long straights (back-to-back thus favoring the point-n-squirt drovers  ), the sc lets the hp guys think they're fast but not let them get away b/c the 2 straights are equally separated by corners.

caroussel too rough on ya? slow.t.f.down. they still can't pass you there... you have until little bend to build up speed and put distance between you and the other guy- that's FOUR corners later.....

as far as runoff, only trackout from big bend makes things a bit hairy, but that's also why i like it.

it's so technical i never feel like i've learned it, though thanks to other regions having 5 sessions/day on it, cumulatively i still have more tracktime there than at summit main :D

I disagree that it mainly highlights driver skill over HP. It actually highlights a combination of driver skill, suspension setup, lightness and tires. Face it, some Porsche models handle better then others -- and that goes a long ways towards being 'faster' at Shenandoah. Also holds true for T5-8 at SP...

Just what exactly are you trying to say wise guy?????

BlackTalon 03-20-2007 04:03 PM
