Kicking a man while he's down, a new low for you McTavish. :p And the 914 wasn't orange.

tune in next season when we find out ... who shot JR! ... and is bobby really dead, or did pam just dream the whole season??? come on, this is a safe place, nobody will make fun of you. ok, strike that.... maybe wemple will... but it won't matter, in fact you'll probably end up with some useful advice once you wade through all the background banter. |
I know I know....but I won't tell! I will wait for Larry when he is ready.

It's partially my fault for not getting all the parts together before the busy season. Other than this delay this time, I have received excellent service from my guy in all other cases, so I'd rather not blacken his name. Missing track time has been frustrating though.

Larry - hope you get your car back soon.
I just pre-ordered the "IMS Guardian", IMS detection device. I believe delivery is the August timeframe. I will give thoughts on it when it comes in and I install. |
I received the "IMS Guardian", IMS detection device this past Monday in the mail.
Looks like a pretty straightforward install - came with instructions and a short video. The directions remove, inspect and clean the sump plate when installing, so I am going to install during my next oil change. Let me know if anyone would like to check it out or see how hard or easy it is for me to install. |
Out of curiosity, has anyone here had an IMS failure? Just curious how common an IMS failure actually is to happen.
|
That's a wide open question. It appears to be in the 5-10% range. Some say it's inevitable but there are m96 motors with mileage in the high 200k range.
|
1 in 10!!! Thats a VERY high rate of failure. So, there should definitely be folks on dorki who have experienced. Would love to hear their story. I wonder if it was batch related or design related? It's strange that some cars are getting upwards of 300k miles without issue and others fail.
|
I doubt Dorki will identify the common denominator and come up with a reliable way to predict with motors may develop the issue. It's been beaten to death on Pelican, Rennlisp and other forums that have a lot more members.
