I'm ambivalent. It's there, it's a challenge, I need to learn it. The first time was punishing (3 point harness), but I knew I'd like it more after the bruises healed. It's also the only counter clockwise track I've run.

What makes you think it's counter clockwise?

I like it. Good learning track. Reduces the advantage of horseies and torquies. Has nice heads.

I wonder how it would be CW? Spit you out of the Karussel onto a nice straight and up a hill. Might be fun.

FWIW, SC also has a lot of good viewing opportunities close to the paddock.

i am only a year and a half into this whole DE thing and cant imagine a track i wouldn't like. between the driving, the comradery, and being away from my wife   i am on cloud nine. i guess as i get better at this i will have my favorites but the SC was great last year and will do it at every oportunity.

Hate it. Absolutely zero flow to that track. And it's eaten parts of my suspension each of the two times I've been there. And the carousel is dumb (however it's spelled). I just drive around that track feeling very unsatisfied.

Maybe it's my driving.:p The "fun factor" on the main track is much higher.

As Ricky Bobby would say: "I wanna go fast!"

Love the karousel.. just throw the car in there and hold on.. Like the "jump" after you go under the bridge.. Like the fast turn onto the back straight.. Like a lot of it as individual elements, i guess, but don't really like the overall. Never found a good rythym I guess. Only drove it for 1 event (shattenbaum).

I wouldn't travel from far away for it. But, its close enough (50 minutes for me) and is a nice change from the main course, that I will try to do it again this year.

JC Extension

I guess I only presented this info in the Instructor's Meeting; should have also presented in the Drivers Meeting, my apologies.

I met with Bill Scott on Friday to talk about track plans, and he showed me the maps for the extension to the JC. It will have a big paddock and the first thing they will build (2007) will be a large dual slid pad arrangement that appears to be targeted at....drifting. The second part, a 1.5mile extension to the JC will start in 2008. The maps show the extension extending from what is now Turn 4 (big left hand sweeper at the top of the hill) heading down towards the Pistol Grip area of the SC. The extension will include some nice elevation change, a straight nearly as long as Summit Main, and a crossover bridge like Suzuka.

I realize that Bill is a “big thinker” intent on building a legacy, but I’m personally very frustrated with the lack of upkeep on the main track. It is no longer just bumpy, it is now very hard on cars and getting dangerous. He told me last spring that it would be resurfaced this past off-season; well, that never happened. I asked Bill when he was going to invest some money into the "crown jewel", Summit Point Main, he said that he would repave it – including using high tech asphalt and polymers to eliminate all concrete patches. “After the summer solstice.” Hmmm...seems I've heard that one before. The resurfacing will take some time, probably a month or two to do it right; it’s difficult to see how that can be done during the season.

That said, can you just imagine how fast SPC would be with a surface like Mid Ohio??? SPC wouldn’t just be “close”. It would be “GOOD”.

As you travel around the track the infield is on your left. Also, when you leave the pits you turn to your left. The other tracks we run on have the infield on your right as you drive. Mid Ohio has the pits outside the circuit so you initially enter to the left but the infield is still to your right as you are driving. Most tracks seem to place the pits in the infield thus requiring a bridge or tunnel. NASCAR and most circle track cars and motorcycles run counter clockwise too.
