Tony must've spotted some deer.

Forgot one of the funniest moments.
Saturday afternoon I was sitting on pit wall waiting for a ride, can't remember what group was out, black or red, but it seems that whoever was out was starting to "push" a little. In the space of 10 minutes more cars than that came in and with each Paul Amico would look to pit out and exclaim "What did this one do NOW??????" Wish I had a video. |
Mark, you may be having problems with 17 because you're not setting up the turn correctly. This is another one of those "critical car placement" issues ie "if it ain't right at the beginning it ain't gonna be right at the end".
Coming down the hill through the left (#15) let the car track out to right. The track is a little misleading here as this is a gentle curve to the left. Try making this area after #15 a straight on the right side of track, apply as much braking as necessary (in a straight line) to control speed going into the left turn #16 making this a late entry. You want to finish the turn and position your car on the left side edge and parallel to the track where there is curbing. I use the very end of the curbing as a turn in point for turns 17 and 17A, a constant radius, double apex turn feeding more and more power as the car settles after 17. |

I drove over the grass on the right (inside turn #8, and #9)and entered the track after #9, from the right (who needed those F brake cooler scoops anyways!). Picked up one position ... the agricultural way  Quote:

Pucker moment: cooking into left hook, running out of brakes, and trying to make the turn anyway . . . . . . next thing I see is the eyes of the driver who succesfully navigated the hook.
Oooops moment: Getting black flagged for not coming in after the spin . . . when asked why I didn't come in by the pit boss I paused and said . . . ah . . . . in NASA events you don't have to come in after spins . . . . Welcome to white moment: Held out my arm so long on the back straight (while a couple cup cars went by, followed by a 996 turbo and a GT3, and a few others) that I got black flagged for having my arm on the window sill. Most excellent track moments: 1. Having Tony (I was either driving or being driven in every run session) Kelly straighten me out Friday afternoon so I could enjoy Sat. 2. Realizing that all of the above mentioned cars were moved out of white after the 1st session on Saturday. Most excellent Moment: Having my wife and son accepted by the Dorkie crew with open arms (which is tough when it comes to my son) and spending 2 great days under Chez Dorkie with Bill, Chris, Dave R, Froze, Greg, Gunther, Jim, Josh, Kurt, Ted, and Tony. Now when is the next VIR event :) |
Hey! Clayton is cool. Even my husband thought he was fun and he's not usually kid-friendly.
|
Yeah, Clayton and his mom are cool. It's Mr. Astore we have to keep an eye on.
