I wish. However, the cranky, old, has-diabetes-and-gets-twice-daily-insulin-shots, barfs-up-his-food-all-over-the-carpet cat is just fine. I keep asking Management when will it be time to put him out of our misery, but she actually likes the fur-shedding, dog-chasing monster....

Don't know whether you're considering an induction stove, but we put one in and love it - much better than the old coil-style electric stove we had. OTOH, if you had gas, keep it.

We had a gas line run to the kitchen when we first bought the house (already had a gas furnace and hot water heater). So, we're getting a gas stove; had electric stoves before, and gas is soooo much better. Never tried an induction stove, though.

Really? You do realize that your garage makes everyone else on this board envious, right? I'll trade you -- I can always order more appliances, but 5000 sq ft garages with 20-ft ceilings and in-floor heating are a little harder to come by. The only catch is you'd have to deliver the garage and pick up the appliances....

Updates from Day 8:
Not much has happened since Day 4. That day (last Thursday), they put the plywood subfloor down.

The building inspector came Friday. Was supposed to come first thing in the morning, but didn't show up until about 2:30 in the afternoon. Took a look around and said he couldn't pass the construction work because they didn't have an electrical permit (contractor had only gotten a building permit). The inspector told the contractor to get the electrical permit first thing Monday morning (which they did, but charged us another $800 to do it) and that he'd be back Monday afternoon to re-inspect. However, he didn't make it Monday :bang: and is now scheduled to come some time tomorrow.

The contractor has done some more electrical work and a little more demolition. However, they've reached the point where they can't do anything else until passed by the inspector.

Over the weekend, we got a half-dozen paint samples from a couple of places, and I painted some splotches on the wall. I think we're going to go with the color on the far right, Behr "Offshore Mist". At least, I think that's what Management has currently selected. :?

In the meantime, we wait....

Surprised the building inspector also handles the electrical inspections; at least here in Alexandria there are separate inspectors for each type of permit.

Also surprised the contractor did not have electrical (and mechanical/ plumbing) permit.

Hopefully everything gets back on track for you. I suspect you will wonder how you lived with so few electrical outlets before (I am assuming you are getting more outlets and definitely more circuits)

One of the Gucci items I wish we knew about before finishing the granite counters are pop up electrical outlets.

Something like this. Get one that has USB charging ports >>

Ahhh c'mon! The ceiling is only a bit over 12 feet high. :p

Permit? :)

In AA county there were 2-3 inspectors for everything so there was overlap between a few functions.

Good idea on the usb ports. I have one of the 110 outlets with usb in the middle, very functional and simple to install/use. This thread is bringing back memories of tile layout, counter, hood cfm... glad thats over! Cool project, keep the pics coming.

It's nearly as quick reacting as gas, and cleans up easier. Because the induction heats the pot rather than the stove top, nothing gets cooked onto the surface.

Bah. Induction is for mechanical engineers, and gas is for people who know how to cook

Now have gas for cooking at the new house and I have to agree. Fast, accurate and easy to adjust and see the amount of adjustment. No finicky issues with pots being flat too. Should have replaced the elec in the old house with gas when I was there

gas is king
