L likes her double over a lot! 3rd one we've had in 21 years in same house. 3rd Dish washer too. Same Microwave for ~25 plus years till I cooked a bagel for 100 minutes instead of 1 (fumbled the keys and didn’t check)!! Still worked but couldn’t get rid of smell.
Oven and dishwasher had fried "mother boards" so some sort of all house surge protector is in works and probably a good idea for everyone anymore. BTW why do ovens and dishwasher need mother boards anyway??? |

Great example. I dont mean to take this off in too far another direction but that's my concern. Most of the time I make eggs and some chicken in the oven. Kia stuff. I've figured out my electro-range enough to cook decent food but since I moved into this place I have been cooking as much as I used to. It's quite an investment but I really hope/think the uber cooking gear will motivate me to spend more time in the kitchen.
Lame as it sounds, it really does come down to the $$. Long term I see it as a really good thing. It just really hurts right now. |
We redid our kitchen 2 years ago and did all GE Profile appliances. Our range has a single gas oven, but the electric "warming drawer" can go as high as 400 degrees, so it's like another oven. Above that, we have a combination Microwave / Convection oven with the exhaust & stove lights built in. The exhaust fan isn't great, but it gives us an option of a 2nd/3rd oven when used for convection.
I do a lot of the cooking and insisted on the range that has one 19,000 BTU burner. GE Profile = reasonable, durable, dependable. |
Good info, thanks. I didnt realize GE had a 19k burner, I'll check it out.

I've been thru this decision making with several customers over the last few years. Put ABW appliances on your list. They have an upscale store in Silver Spring a block away from Radial Tire. I followed one of my client as she was shown the gambit.. I really liked the first question: Do you want a mom kitchen or a showplace. The answer was somewhere in between for this Chevy Chase house with a tiny kitchen built in 1928. Double oven (one convection/micro) it was really two units that shared a face frame/trim. each serviceable or replaced individually. Small Viking Cooktop with 6" fan. just under the code requiring the make up air unit. I think under 600 cfm.
Small farm house sink kept it a bit period looking. For some reason they all bought LG refrigerators and bosh dishwashers. Best is an upscale division of braun. Built really well. Should last a century in non-commercial use. I installed one with a 10" fan 1200 cfm maybe. came with the make up unit. not installed. (required by code in newer housing that is tight. One concern is the possibility to cause a down draft on a furnace or hot water heater and carbon monoxide. they have to have a wire run between the fan and the damper that lets air in the house. this one was 6" makeup of either cold air in winter our hot humid air in summer. sucked in anyway when the fan is turned on but not all in one place. Remember that you need a route for that big ass 10" duct to get out. The most crowd pleasing appliance so far has been a small under counter ice maker! You become all your neighbors best friend! Chris, if your doing granite tops, I have the best guy to work with. Have fun! The |
Thanks, good info.
