I've done the North Course once. The uphill right hander from the full to the north section is fun. Get to skip the back straight. A combination of less fun and less stressful without the esses/turn 10.

Has anyone ever run any of the other VIR course iterations? They look fun; wonder if any groups do these events.

For DEs the First Settlers Region does two days on the South Course (plus one day on the Full) every September. Carolinas Region just did the Grand last weekend (Friday but only for solo run groups). Tar Heel Sports Car Club does the North Course for two days in April. Asphalt Ventures just did a one day on the Patriot (CCW direction) while the Audi Club was doing their Full Course DE. I am learning (Blue Group in a Cayman) and I find the Patriot and South fun and it just adds to my experience to learn a "new" track without traveling too far. I can't wait to do the North and Grand courses next season. BTW--the NASCAR K&N series did their August race on the North but I think the Sprint Cup series teams always run their tests on the Full.

I've run North too. Didn't love it. Stevie Wonder section can't compare to the Esses. Haven't run Grand or South.

I agree. Winchester Speedway (dirt oval) is less then 15 miles from Summit Point yet they will fill the stands and Summit Point would do good to get ten fans out to watch the SCCA races. Winchester offers discounts to SCCA members sometimes when the SCCA MARRS races coincide with their night racing. I'm a race fan--I personally like it all and see how all forms of racing take skill and experience to master. Chris, the new track director at Summit Point, tried to increase attendance at the last SCCA MARRS weekend by offering free admission, a cars and coffee event in the morning, and parade laps at lunch and after the racing was done but it still didn't bring many fans in. Winchester's (and Potomac Speedway's) track promoter owns a business that sponsors some SCCA cars so you'd think there'd be a way that the two tracks could have some cross promotion--Race fans could come to Summit Point by day and Winchester by night.

Very cool -- glad to see other groups do run the other options. Agree with somcdroc's observation that it offers us another nearby way to practice our "learn new track" skills...something that everyone can afford to hone.

Would be fun to get a group of us together and attend one of these.

And Greg holy cheet mang!

One way to get "fans" to Summit Point is "Hyperfest." Of course, the fans tend to be 18-24 year old, drunk redneck males. But it's a start.

If Chris wants to generate a fan base, he (and/or SCCA) needs to offer a lot more than ONE free event. The gate admission ($20?) is pretty much a no-go for someone who is curious and wants to see what roadcourse racing is about. I cannot imagine that they make a significant amount of money. The events are all day long, two or three days straight. Nobody's going to want to see a full event.

^Agreed. $20 is a bit odd...

SP is not a "big-league track" in its current state so it shouldn't be charging big(ish)-league prices: it seems it may be better served by coming across as a "local small-town race track" -- play off its inherent intimacy and friendliness; a place that anyone can just show up to and visit and have a great time.

The fact that it's got three road courses (one of which is a big-league 2-miler and two of them having phenomenal viewing possibilities) and a rockin-cool kart track should be what keeps the spectators coming back for more.

Just my opinion, but most know the track far better than I.

An old-timey amusement park in the infield would be cool.

And cut down all the deer hiding places to put it in! (Glad Wemple isn't still on the board...)
