Frictioncircle, I don't mean to unload on you. You didn't design the system after all :) It's just frustrating. Here's another example of the search function/guide problem:

I'm looking for American Le Mans Series - Petite Le Man which is on October 6th. I type in ALMS and get Resident Evil as my only result. Then I type in A M E R I and I get a slew of results. None of the results are what I'm looking for and the results are out of order. They start OK, the first 5 or 6 started with American but after that it went to second and third words and then back to first words then America's vs American etc etc. No rhyme or reason to the results. American Le Mans never showed up and I scrolled thru results for several pages until the letters A M E R I were no longer even in the title.

So I switch tactics and search Petite Le Mans. I type P E T I and guess what shows up? Keep in mind this is the exact description in the FIOS system, American Le Mans Series Petite Le Mans. Why on earth didn't it show up when I searched A M E R I???????? Clearly it should have. After all that, for some reason, the DVR would not let me schedule the show to record so now I have to make a note in my calendar to go through all of this again Wednesday or Thursday night or I just miss another show I wanted to watch. The major issue is that each race is titled something different so you have to know what to search for. It shouldn't be that way. I should be able to search for words in the title of the show and it should show up. It also shouldn't bring up any shows without the searched word in the title so I don't have to scroll thru page after page of completely unrelated search results praying to find what I'm looking for and, when I do eventually find it, it should let me record it no matter how far out it is. That's the whole point 'set it and forget it'

The old system was great. The new system, and I don't care how much it cost, is an absolute disservice to the customers. It doesn't work. It should be scrapped.

Picture is great though :)

Again, no reflection on you and I appreciate your willingness to accept feedback.

Peace!

Resident Evil is a cool movie - you should go with the first suggestion, FIOS DVR knows best (Wotan told me so).

DTV just released a slew of new HD channels however they are chock full of old shows that are broadcast in what they call "HD". Last night when the storm rolled through, I couldn't view the HD channels at all but all non-HD came in fine! Go figure.

FWIW, the DTV DVR is not that great either. It may be a bit better than FIOS' but it's nowhere near as good as Tivo. I just pulled the plug on our DTV Tivo box because it was starting to freeze up now that it's several years old. I may look into replacing the hard drive to see if it comes alive again.

Good thread. People sure are passionate about their TV :)

Not to beat a dead horse but the original programming for the FIOS DVR worked almost exactly like TIVO. It was awesome. Some terms were different but it was very easy and made a lot of sense.

One more issue with the FIOS DVR is that when you go to view the recording schedule it only shows today and tomorrow so I'm not convinced that it's going to record my stuff. TIVO shows 2 weeks out. Much easier to plan and track. 'Set it and forget it' I will have to check this every 48 hours. It's like a second job. I got enough stress.

www.weaknees.com is a great source for new TiVo drives. I've upgraded mine twice due to drive failures. The first time I did it myself, using instructions that I found linked somewhere on that site. The second time I just bought one of their drives which is ready to be installed and it worked out great.

I'm having my Fios TV installed on Tuesday, and reading this thread is not making me feel very good about it. However, I've been missing out on HD for too long and I think as far as picture quality and selection goes, Fios is my best option. I am definitely going to miss my TiVo. Hopefully they get the bugs taken care of soon.

I think you're being a little hard on the DTV DVR, at least the HD version. I've got the DTV HD DVR (in addition to a DTV HD Tivo and a couple of standard res DTV Tivos) - DTV came out with a software upgrade a couple of months ago that made it much more usable. The upgrade added some nice TiVo-esque features like small-backup-after-fast-forward that I'm surprised they aren't getting sued over.

I will keep tabs on this thread.

As was said you have to go through and find and program each program one by one to be sure to get them all. I have use my TEVO season pass manager to let me know what to tell the FIOS box what to do.

i hear all kinds of drips about HBL and brush them off because likely same as you with Verizon I have NO weight in how the place is run. Have your boss and his boss keep tabs. Don't let them continue to mess up a good thing by not fixing this. Trust me we are very small pointy tip of an iceberg. I have been word of mouth selling Fios but the DVR reprogram is a true MESS and has shut me up for now. Tell them to fix it!
