Thanks Jon,
I may come by as a spectator, but not a participant. On Sunday, Vu and I were talking about the of scrutiny concours judging and concluded it's not for me. At a quick glance, we could see numerous items I would get 'marked' for, and that was only in 15 seconds of looking at the drivers side.....never mind the interior, engine/trunk compartment or underbelly. I can see me now.....pent up rage building and eventually boiling over into explicatives and probably some type of raging fit at the poor judge picking on my car.....'It's 22 years old, what do you expect?' I think I'll stick to DE's, wrenching and Fun Runs:) |

I dont mean to hijack your thread, but oh well. :) Seeing how great your car looks makes me think my SC is a beater. I havent washed it in a while, wax? last year some time. It's not a mess, but no where near what you guys are presenting. Thing is, I love it that way! It's my feable attempt at an outlaw I guess. :)

Can you give us tips on how you made your car shine like that? I'm sure the buffer helped but how did you avoid streaks and swirls?
Everyone should definitely come by Avenal. Eventhough I will be setting up the place, I'm not entering my car and will be a spectator most of the day. It will be just nice to see other P-cars out there. BTW, this is only top only, judges will not look in or under the car. |

Jon,
These guys know their stuff and I pretty much used their advice for the cleaners, wax and application. http://www.carcareonline.com Check out their paint cleaning 'how to': http://www.carcareonline.com/viewarticle.aspx?art=5 The Porter Cable random orbit buffer prevents and buffs out any swirls. Make sure you use the buffer in one direection and you remove/buff the excess off in the same direction, the 'direction of the air flow over the vehicle'. A circular motion causes the swirls. From the 'how to': "P21S GLOSS ENHANCING PAINTWORK CLEANSER: (another translation from German): A thick, rich, creamy polish that leaves a deep rich shine. Developed by a German company with the German finishes in mind. Our favorite product for finishes that do not have scratches. (Did you read between the lines again?). Produces the best deep gloss finish of any product I have ever tried." |
