visions of you pulling up in your Targa with bathrobe and slippers danced in my head

I can just see RL and Dan M. trying to explain "Targ-o-ladyte" to the officer while he is cuffing them.

Rick,

Very lucky. Thinking about the possible scenarios beyond his turning on his red lights when he did make me shiver. Wonder if he had been in a yellow 993, would you have backed off at 59 after a red line start ?
Lucky man.

Actually, I would have backed off if it had been another Porsche. I absolutely would never race anyone in the dark and/or with a single drink in me. Really. You guys know I view a lot of traffic laws as optional, but I do not go looking for trouble.

Fairfax police in Camaro's? Pitiful. RL, glad to hear you weren't getting too "frisky" with your 993 in that jurisdiction.

Why is everyone saying I was "lucky"? I wasn't doing anything wrong and the cop had next to nothing on me.
You are lucky you don't have colored skin. You are lucky the officer didn't approach your 993 with his glock drawn screaming at you to put your hands out the window. That's the same thing I was thinking, that I wasn't doing anything wrong in my 911 a couple weeks back when a Montgomery County Officer stopped me for being too brown.

Signs You “Might” Have A Lead Foot

You’re the first person to be put on the FBI’s most wanted list just for speeding.
You need three states just to go on a joy ride.
You have a suspended drivers license in all 50 states.
You married your wife because she also had a Porsche.
Your bumper sticker says, “My other car is even faster.”
You get blisters from your gas pedal.
You always leave at the last minute, but you’re never late.
Your friends leave an hour before you do just so they can meet you at the same time.
You don’t wear a seatbelt, you wear a crash helmet.

…and Rick this one’s for you:
You get pulled over even when you’re not speeding just to get a warning not to speed.

The best response when pulled over after "slightly exceeding" the speed limit: "Sorry Officer, my wife left me last week for a state trooper." "The reason I didn't stop was because I was afraid you where chasing me desperately trying to give her back."

Pari-
Did they issue a ticket? What box did they check?

Rick Lee 12-23-2003 08:50 AM

I got a ticket for "failure to display front license plate" only - not racing, not speeding, not DUI, not open container.

I did not do anything at all to give this guy a single reason to draw on me. (BTDT a long time ago) I signaled and pulled over the second his blue lights came on and when he approached my window, I had my hands spread out on the wheel with my license between my fingers. A few years ago a Ffx. Co. cop told me they run your plates before they approach your car and it will show up in their computer if you have a concealed carry permit. Ironically, he also said that's likely calm the approaching officer a bit, as he knows instantly from my CCW that I have no felony record and will tell him if I have a weapon in the car. I have gotten out of some potentially very bad situations by being super polite and friendly and making sure I give no one any reason to get nervous or pi$sed off at me. A similar incident in NJ a few years ago, had it gone the other way, would have prevented my buying a Porsche for many, many years. When I got to court, the State Police report noted how polite, calm and friendly I was. The prosecutor cited that as his reason for cutting me a super sweetheart deal. Kill 'em with kindness and your chances are much better. No matter what they cite you for, you always have that going for you when you get to court.
