I used to hear the '73-74 cars as having bumper "tits" vs the clean smooth early cars and the huge rubber bumper 75-76 cars. 73's had them in front only iirc. '74 had them front and rear. '75-76 cars, in MD and CA were even required to have nipples on their huge bumpers for an especially heavy look.

IMHO, look for the least rusty and go from there. Later (72+) had centric front wheel hub and by 73 the tailshifter trans which does make a difference in stirring the stick in the butter churn transmission.

An early 1.7 feels nearly as quick as a late 2.0 imho. My '76 was rated at 86hp. My 70 1.7 was rated at 80hp, but it was about 200lbs lighter.

Of course, 73-74 2.0 are the most sought after.

I don't doubt you at all, but WTF did they add to a 914 that added 200lbs in those 6 yrs? Was it all bumpers?

All the luxuries:

1) heavier bumpers front and rear, culminating in the huge impact bumpers
2) heavier door beams
3) thicker body panels
4) sound deadening
5) options

Like any Porsche, there were continual yearly developments and changes that almost always made them heavier.

I found this the other day on craigslist!

Could be good.

I called and talked to the owner about it. Apparently, the ring gear on the flywheel is chewed up, which is why it won't start and needs a new flywheel (and the starter in the trunk). Also, it has been hit in the rear and apparently not fixed all that well. And, the pictures look like it has been poorly partially repainted -- the driver's side rear quarter doesn't look like it matches the door.

Still trying to decide if I want to go look at it or if it's too much of a project right now.

just to show advertised east coast car, no affiliation, just looking to help spend someone elses money. Don't buy a rusty, and they ALL have rust, car.

Thanks for the link, but they want $40K, which is a bit more than I was looking to pay. There's a reason why I'm not looking at 914-6's, not even conversions.

Sorry. When I saw this on 914world it was $19k

I wonder if the price on 914world is a typo (deliberate?). I sent the dealer an email asking for the price, and he replied with $39K and a link to an AutoTrader ad that also said $39K.
