HALIFAX CO., Va. - This is a face lift for the famous road course.
This week a paving company is tearing up this area known as the North Paddock. It is where the drivers and their crews park haulers. The majority of the area is gravel, track leaders plan to make it one large paved area.

Ah yes, my hauler.

This comes as the track adds more races and gets more attention among NASCAR and racing fans.
O RLY?

More like, hey name a racing series...."uh uh uh.....NASA? Wait, no, they do the Space Shuttle... must be a typo...."

I know SCCA rules say that the starter's flag needs to be visible to "most" of the field. I assume they'll keep that in mind when they set up the new starter's tower.

Given the merger of ALMS and Grand Am, I get the sense that tracks like VIR have to compete harder than ever to get on a shrinking number of pro race calendars. That would explain the upgrades.

Well, they did have their very first NASCAR race there this summer when the NASCAR K&N East series came to the track and it was promoted quite heavily locally. When you talk to locals around Danville most have never heard of VIR until recently. They all know about Martinsville to the West and South Boston to the East but VIR is still a mystery to most. With NASCAR having regular open test dates at VIR for both the Sprint Cup and Nationwide series and now holding K&N series races at VIR maybe the track wants to bring in more fans and more money by attracting stock car fans that more then fill the stands at the other regional oval tracks. VIR also wants to keep the new Tudor series with its limited schedule happy so having a consistent width to the track and paddock improvements might be the best way to not only bring in these series but keep them coming back.
BTW--I was also at The Carolinas event last weekend. With the exception of Saturday morning's slick track (that made me appreciate my skid pad time at Summit Point) I had lots of fun. I can't wait until the Zone 2 DE in March to see all the changes.

I'd love to see more NASCAR on road courses, especially VIR.

I think they need a lot more stands and bathrooms for a big event...per NASCAR's standards.

A couple of us drove to S Boston for the races in September when down there. Its like HS football. Whole town was there.....watching or not.

It would be nice to have the gap between road course racing and speedway racing narrowed so there's a chance for cross-over fan growth.

Has anyone ever run any of the other VIR course iterations? They look fun; wonder if any groups do these events.

Other groups do them from time to time. Check VIRs track calendar, it usually says who is renting the track and which course. I've done 1 day on the south course prior to a 2 day on the full course. I like full better. Never run the patriot course, north course, or grand.

Trackdaze tends to run alternate configurations, sometimes changing between days. Which can be fun, or very dangerous. Brain fart video.
