ooof. beware the x5. My 2000 4.4L just cost me a bundle. Would you believe the alternator is water cooled?

^^ What Bob said. A family member owns a 2006 X5 4.4L. Bought it with 40K on the odo. Its needed over 7k in repairs over 12 months. The self leveling suspension has been especially troublesome with every single component replaced over this time. First the LF strut, then the RF strut and suspension compressor, then suspension bushings, then both rear shocks.

I hear the X5s without the air suspension have way less issues.

I'd throw the Toyota Land Cruiser into the mix since Das German Engineering seems to only be good for sporty cars and not SUVs.

TLCs are very strong and hold their value well. Fuel economy sucks big time and you don't get much for the money but for strength they can't be beat.

Our 2008 Mercedes GL (diesel) has been very relable. She ain't pretty like a Cayenne though.

You mean it's good looking then. If not, please get your eyes checked.

I think the Cayenne's attempt to be a Porsche up front is ugly, but its what on the inside that counts.
