You should come out to the first tech inspection (whether you decide to run the DE event or not) as it is a great opportunity to get your car up on a lift and have several people congregate underneath it and point out all of its flaws. Once the tech inspectors figure out which end of the car the engine is at and finish chastising you for it, they are actually a great source of information. |
Ha ha ha.....yea at the very least I'll drive out there and watch. Thanks for the other things to look at. The coolant in the expansion tank is kinda nasty at the moment. I guess the old coolant mixed w/ whatever Porsche stuff the shop put in after doing the water pump.
I have a big list of things to replace (go figure). |
I can't speak for 944 wheel bearings, but my rear 911 bearings got very noisy at Watkins Glen. Had 2 mechanics to discuss it with, and both said they fail very slowly. Ben and I each drove several more track sessions, then we drove the car home 6 hours. No problems (but THANKS to TR for driving home the same route in case we needed a trailer).

Sounds like you should not have to much problem. There was a factory recall I think on the same line you are talking about. Brake pads are cheap, tyres you need anyway, make sure the battery, seats, belts are O.K. and firm.

Any pad recommendation? I was looking on Pelican Parts but they offer very little for the lowly old N/A 944.

Assuming this is the start of the slippery slope, and you are going to be doing quite a few events. If not and the car is going to be a mainly street car, just go with stock. Look for a high performance street, these are all compromises, full race pads are not really good for newer drivers on the street, don't work well when cold, take a lot of pressure, glaze over etc and can be very embarrasingly noisy.
Hawk high perf. street are what I use on my street cars. Mintex make some as do a bunch of people, check the catalogues and I am sure there will be a lot of opinions on this site. Dirk |

Feel free to contact two well-known brake guys:
Paul Weston www.westonmotorsports.comPaul has more years of experience but is in Florida. Dave is local (dropped pads off at my office once!) Peter |
As a green student, I've been using the PBR pads shown here:
https://www.autohausaz.com/search/pr...rtnumber=D209D They're not too dusty and not too noisy. My car sees a good bit of street use, but it is not my DD. |
All 944's leak P/S fluid. Mine leaves a 2" puddle after a couple days of sitting. No biggie. Between the P/S and the stupid oil filter placement, that side of a 944 engine bay is always a bit moist.
As for pads, I've had good luck with Hawks. I've used both the HP+ (good street pad) and the HPS (Street/track combo pad) on the track without a problem. Both work fine on the street but the HPS's make some noise and a bit more dust. I would say get some decent street tires and brake pads, flush your brake fluid, fix the fuel line and sign up. |
