I see this happen a lot in bike racing.

The bike is very stable, very low, very light weight and on very fat tires and they can continue on their merry way. All the rider does on a bike is upset it's balance anyway.

The racer generally prefers the bike to fall over next to him, even if there is minor damage because he can then get back on the bike quicker.

I know of a guy who was traveling across country with 8 other guys on their crotch rockets when one had a tragic accident. They were crossing the dessert flats of Arizona and going at a ridiculous speed. Easy to do with flat roads, no traffic, and few cops. One guy decided to sit up to stretch his back from being haunched over and didn't check his speedo.. He got sucked off the back of the bike at 130mph.. He went for a quarter mile, the bike went for four miles. The leather only lasted an eighth of a mile. :(

You know, it might be fabrication. The bike never really goes down. The rider just seems to pop off the back of it. Hmmmm.

I don't think it has anything to due w/ gyroscopic forces. Just the inherent rake (caster) of the front end causes a self-righting effect. Push a bicycle down a hill and let go. It'll continue on for a LONG way. Same reason you can let go of the handle bars - its an inherently stable machine. Technically, the gyroscopic procession(?) of the front wheel hurts stability (in one direction.)

I did about 150+ on my ninja and the wind pressure pushed both my adjustable mirrors flat inward so they faced each other.

I had a great view of either side of my face. lol.

To adjust a mirror like that would take a firm push with a hand.

Okay I just typed the name of my old motorcycle into youtube search and this is the first video that came up.

Notice this guy almost hits a car from behind at 160 mph. He brakes so hard that I think the rear tire was probably in the air. Makes me clench up just watching it.

Wow, that is just a reminder of why I stopped riding. Too much speed.

Dr K 11-25-2008 10:18 PM

That is some wicked acceleration. And you know the guy riding it is like 70 years old, because he has his left turn signal on about half the time...

Fritz 11-25-2008 10:24 PM

I hope that was on the autobahn.. Although I've seen similar speeds on 50 coming back from the beach.. I've been tempted to drop a two by four in front of ass holes standing on their seats passing in between cars at 100+mph.. I'm hoping natural selection will save me the court time.. :)

Peter, I'm pretty sure his signal is on to signify "GET THE F*$% OUT OF MY WAY!!"

I saw this a while back on a motorcycle board. The bike is in some kind of a rig on the back of a truck.
