By the way, until this year I have never worked on my cars and would never consider myself " handy " in any way, but my wife says it now really turns her on when she sees me working on my car.

Visual inspection for cracks, finger nail for outside ridge. When you have a very pronounced ridge on the outside edge, replace. If drilled when cracks connect the holes or have raised edges time to change. Walk around during a tech and you will likely find a good example. Linda’s 964 is right there now, will need to order some new ones soonest.

There are width specs BUT for a track car, you most often crack them before you make them too skinny. For drilled rotors, replace when the cracks join the holes or go from hole to outside edge. For non-drilled rotors, IIRC, the rotors should be replaced when the cracks are 6 mm or so long. If it scares you to see the crack, replace.

I've never seen solid rotors on a DE Carrera crack. Drilled rotors will crack, but the drilled rotors for stock Carrera brakes are teh crap, so avoid and use OEM Zimmermans. Wear limit is 22mm thick.
