Fuch you Dave.
I haven't spun or gone off track in over one year and 11 days, but who is counting ;) |

Chris,
Is this the first time you have used PF97s (which I love), or do you think the difference is primarily due to the brake upgrade? I always bedded in the PF97s on the street. I don't get motion sickness so I never noticed anything. The best time for bedding them in was on the road down to VIR at night. The sparks that fly look like redneck sparklers. cool. |
he's used them before... it's the 'less work more brake' sensation you get from gargantually gigantic lotors

I don't bother bedding PF97s in on the street. Few moderate decels on the first warm-up lap and they're good to go.
Have fun this weekend, Jazz. And for just once stop obsessing about something... |
I have PF97's on my car. I drove it to Mid Ohio which was pretty cool in the evening. On the drive out, I'd lightly brake on the exit ramps to see if I could get them to shreik all the way down. :D Has nothing to about bedding but felt like sharing. When I bedded them (on the street), the wheels locked up and I nearly went through the glass.

Great news Chris! I hope you and everyone else is having a blast...
Let us know how the car makes out. |
Chris rolled into the paddock around 10 am. Only missed one session! Amazing.

Update 14.July.2007
Yes, I made it. Actually missed two sessions, as I skipped the last one after I lost all of my wheel weights on the 3rd run of the day and the car would shudder violently at 85 mph+. I decided to bag it for the day and get home and get the tires balanced before everything closed. Fortunately, the WalMart near my house had time and balanced all four wheels for me. Last night was insane. }{, Noah and Pari came over and we aligned and balanced the car, installed the seats and harnesses got the car as ready as it was going to be. The only major hiccup was the sway bars. The right rear mount is messed up (has been for a while I think) and while the factory U-bracket can bend to conform, the machined aluminum of my adjustable sways does not. So I couldn't run my new rear bar. Noah had a good idea of running the factory rear with the front full loose, but on full loose I found that the caliper interferes with the drop-link. Sigh - can't win. So last ditch I removed the front drop links and ran with no front sway today. }{ took some good pictures of the madness, esp Noah and me aligning the car. BTW, for the alignment, I used the "greased plate" method of turnplates. $8 solution from Home Depot (8 $1 tiles with grease sandwiched between). The only issue? The entire car can slide, and does. Even when level. You could literally grab the car and rotate it about the center axis with one hand. Impressions? Wow - completely different car. Period. Turn in is simply amazing. The car has never turned like it does now. I used to fight the car to get it to bite and get down the apex. Now? It just goes. I found myself turning in early on a LOT of turns (4 and 9 especially). Brakes? OMFG. Biggest success of the project. I used to start braking on the front at 4 a little and ramp up and lay on them at 3 for T1. Today after some tests I was On at 2.5 and on hard at 2. Granted, today I drove at 7/10s most of the day, but the difference was amazing. And I'm not even up to threshold on these the way I was on the Carrera brakes. Today was a little nerve racking, though. Mainly because I drove the day listening to the car and every little squeak and groan. Checking everything all the time, etc. I really couldn't drive (and shouldn't have driven, IMO) at my limit because I was focusing a lot of attention on the car. Tomorrow I hope to focus more on adapting to the new capabilities of the car. I'm going out the garage now HVAC tape and remount my rebalanced tires, give everything a final once over, then to bed. It's been a long week. BTW - a lot of people stopped by this morning to talk about the car, the project, etc - VaSteve, tdalk, Mackpipes to name a few. I appologize for seeming to ignore everyone in trying to get the car ready for the track and dot my Is and cross my Ts. Sorry about that guys. |
