pretty good weekend for me as well, set my new personal best 213.2 on old tires....(track was fast at that point) i think it was....reallly wanted a 12 but couldnt get it
somehow ended up 2nd overall in the first sprint, second sprint went well but i had a frustrating race with some F class cars taht were blocking, chopping, pushing me off track just in general sketchy and dangerous driving (not to mention slow which was nice cause i qualified in front of them for the enduro) enduro went pretty well till i spun in oak tree, had an issue getting 2nd gear as a cup dove in on me and that was that....got back on track after being held by the corner workers for WAAAY too long...granted it was probably the safe way but man i saw a few gaps i felt i coulda made (but they had a much better view) and then watched Pat (2nd place E car) go zipping by....got back on track and got hunting.....we had a great 4 lap or so battle with nice gentlemanly racing side by side in many corners..was just fun.....with 20 min left in the enduro i was called in, pat was like hey i gotta fuel too, so i said do 1 more then come in and ill be close to done.....he says theres only 20 min left (you have to pit prior to 15 min left)...so told him to come in behind me....i was about a half lap ahead at this point and was out of the car with charlie and art fueling it....pat rolled in and i noticed no one going to help....just had my first sip of water....and looked around...no one was even suited to be able to fuel.... jumped across got pat outta the car and him and i fueled his car...entire time im dreading spilling and causing his DQ...luckily it went well (scruit was 1 foot away staring)...when i was done it was time to jump right back into my car....pit went a little long but ill take long over short any day (thats what she said). all in all Great weekend, i know i could had a 12 but ugh i guess ill take a 13 haha im very happy with my time and the car ran flawlessly. Big thanks to Intersport for all the help and usual support, David Dean steve wilson also big help with having things that i dont have stocked in the trailer yet. John ashford for letting me borrow a set of wheels (winning history now so they are worth more haha) Mark francis as always was down there helping out, Congrats to Omar, Pat, Frank, Ryan, Steve, Scott, Hunt, Craig, Jeremy, Dwayne the Jameses, Lawson, Antonio, Clarke, Lane, and whoever else im forgetting...pretty sure almost everyone had their best lap times drop and sorry for all those with carnage...for once it wasnt me. Sad part is this is the first points ive earned in 3 race weekends....finally finished a points race... i know my camera wasnt working for the enduro and i dont think it was working for the 2nd sprint so ill have to figure out whats up with that (hopefully i remember to put in my memory card. |
First of all, BIG congrats to all those on this board who finished and did well and my sympathies to those who had issues. I know how it feels and it kind of takes the fun out of this hobby but it will go away with the next event.
It was a good weekend for the Ol' fofo as well. Set my personal best of 2:12.9 during qualifying thru no small part of chasing Evan. I think I'm going to buy him a set of bunny ears to attach to his helmet as he makes a good rabbit to chase! PCA does those damn split starts for the SP fofo's so my excellent qualifying time earned me a 36th starting position. I hate that. Came home third in class in the first race after a 45 minute wait on the grid. I was wore out before we started. Second race was second in class. Enduro was a success and failure at the same time. We ended up second in class but was running first the entire race until the pit stop. According to the lapchart we were up as high as 12th. I had the timer set at the top of the hill and just as I was coming thru hogpen, Boy waives me off on the radio as the pit stall was blocked. I go around again and the timer reset back to time of day. Coming back in I go to hit the button at the line and it needs reset. Pit lane was a real cluster. 70+ cars in 25 spaces. I'm looking for Boy, watching speed, dodging cars.....needless to say the timer never got started. I put a can of gas in the car and just guessed at 5 minutes. I will have to watch video to see how long it actually was. Second place car got by me while in the pits. Once back out I had a low oil warning light on but pressure and temps were ok so I kind of backed it off for the last 15 minutes just to make sure I didn't blow it up. One of my cooling fans siezed so water was a bit hot while sitting on pit lane not running. Overall though, a good weekend racing with a great bunch of guys. |
Great weekend ,
Made it to VIR Friday afternoon just for the drinks with friends :) Podium on the second sprint but was off by 4+ sec all weekend from the faster G drovers. Saturday night after found out Lawson was done for the weekend , clutch?? problems I ask him if he wanted do the enduro with me. I did first part of the enduro and was able to make a move on the F car between me and Lane, and that guy was pissed, I mean the man was going left right like a mad cow at the track to block me then he got me going in at front straight. Try to hold on to them as much possible and just before the S's I see a cup car coming, this guy pass me just before the double yellow fine , but then 1 idiot with cup car pass me under full yellow on the s's then two more idiots pass me on the top of the s's , I was like WTF . Besides that I had a great weekend was really fun to be around the Intersport group and having Lawson do the enduro with me and give me feed back about my car. BTW his best time was 2:15.38 and my best time 2:15:44 , and with that said its time for Charlie give what Ryan has on his car LOL Congrats to everyone and thanks to the Intersport Team you guys are the best !!! Wow! What a weekend! Seemed like everytime I went out I dropped my fastest lap. Which made me kind of laugh considering how hard I worked to get the time I had last year.
Sprint 1 was a blast. Finished 2nd in E and 9th overall. But was still like 3 seconds a lap behind Evan. Was behind Hunt during his save in turn4 and got some footage of it. Sprint 2 I finished 3rd in E and 10th overall. Had some rain isolated to the Esses and the back straight. But NOT the Oak Tree. Very strange. At one point I was somewhere back there with my windshield wipers on and my driverside wiper decides to flip over on me. I laughed the whole way up the back straight. Video to come shortly. The Enduro was soooo much fun. It was hot but a blast. Lots of action and the cups being mixed in is fun too. The corner workers did a pretty good job of letting us know that they were coming. Caught Evan after his off in Oak Tree and we got to play for a couple laps. Had an awesome series of turns mirror to mirror. It kind of felt like it was a couple years in the making and of course neither of us have any video of it. (later I was talking to TurboPooch who was with Evan and I in the begining of our exchange and he joked that he didn't want to get involved because our race looked personal. Made me laugh) Then I'm down to the wire for my pit and VERY unselfishly Evan jumped right in and helped me gas while his car was getting gassed! Which was AWESOME! I got out of the car and he's pulling the gas cap, I said through our helmets, "we gonna do this?" He just grabs the can, I got the towel and extinguisher and away we go. It actually turned out to be one of the better enduro pits I've had. Made it out at like 5:08. Thanks a lot buddy!!! Finished 2nd in E and 21st overall, a position behind Evan. Evan seemed like he was feeling like his old self again and dominated E all weekend like he should. Dwayne was kicking a$$ in his new to him Cup. Frank had a good weekend and dropped his times down. George James seemed to be having fun with his newly sorted car(Man that things fast! Pulls on me like a freight train up the back straight) Scott, Clarke, Ryan something, something, track records blah blah blah ;) BMan had a tough weekend. You're due for a good one real soon dude. The only issue I had was a rear brake bedding problem which created a horrible vibration and made the car squirley all weekend. Other than that Deuces ran real strong. As always the comaradery among the Potomac crew makes for half of the fun. Thank you to Omar, Charlie and Art as we couldnt do this stuff without yall. Already looking forward to the next one. |

Fun weekend. Racing usually is! I accomplished one mission, got down to a 2:16.5 in qualifying. Matt Mueller was my competition in SPB for the weekend and he managed a 2:15.8 and a new track record for PCA. Very fun to race with him.
I held Matt off until about 4 laps togo when my #$@& arm restraint strap got hooked under my harness camlock and popped them loose on my way down the roller coaster. End of race :( Got a lot of video footage of a red F class Boxster. A lot of video. All %$@# weekend long I got stuck behind him. Very frustrating. Thanks to Charlie and Art for replacing my bearing. Turned out not to be the problem but it was worth a shot. Hub is bad but Charlie swore it wouldn't explode and told me to race so I did. Robbie was a big help as usual and got some great pics. Thanks to everyone else for organizing food etc. The enduro was definitely interesting. DNF, P2 and P1 on the weekend. Now here's a moment :D |
