Can anyone recommend a local wheel repair shop? I have some 3 piece wheels that need fixing, that is if they aren't too damaged. The place I purchased them is in NC, and they said they could look at them. However, I was hoping not to have to ship them.
Thanks,
Lane

Talked to Wheel Worx in Millersville and he said that they don't really do 3 piece wheels. He recommended some other places, but they were all over the country. I also got in touch with Ye Olde Wheel Shop and they said they'd take a look. I talked to the manufacturer's distribution center in Charlotte, NC and he said that if the center pieces were fine, they could replace the lip pieces. However, the price they gave me was a little more than I had expected. They estimated $400 for replacing one lip and $650 for both lips. Does anyone have experience with having work done to 3 piece wheels? I posted pics of some of the damaged wheels in another thread if you want to see what I'm talking about.

Wheel Doctor in Gaithersburg is a miracle worker.
Yeah^^^, the wheel doctor does 3 piece wheels. Here's the number: The Wheel Doc.(Dan) 301-651-6186. Gluck.

Wheel Doctor in Gaithersburg is going to refinish my 2-piece Speedline wheels next week. I've heard only good things about their work. I'm hoping for a result that prompts me to recommend them to others.

Timely for me too. I want to get some BBS RS wheels fixed.
I took tow of them apart to make one and it's going to work just fine.
I don't think there is really any secret on my wheels other than most people tell you that it can't be done when it can!
I'll wait on the report on Wheel Doc and maybe I can get a price on the other's. Ones a lot worse shape than yours and I've been told by others that it can be fixed.
Good luck!

Has anyone pursued these shops for actual work on their wheels? What is the feedback?

i just had some repairs done by wheel worx this past week.... a bent fikse for the track car, curb rash (DOH!! :x ) and some very minor paint touch ups on my HRE's
spoke to mike...he wasn't sure he could do anything for me until he saw them. he was a little concerned about matching the paint on the HRE's, but i can't even tell where the touch up was done.
they did an amazing job!! all three wheels look brand spanking new !!:D
I used Wheel Doctor on a 19" 3-piece OZ Racing wheel a couple months ago. They did an awesome job.

I have been using Danny (Wheel Doctor) for many years, since the early 90's to be exact. Only thing bad I can say is sometimes it takes a little longer than was predicted but it has always been worth the wait for the extra day or two. Go with Danny.

Pricewise , is there much of a difference ? What do they generally charge ? For fixing curb rash.....
Any difference in quality ?
Between those 2 compenies mentioned before.
I have this annoying curb rash in every wheel ( turbo twists ) . I painted them , so they look presentable .... from 20 feet away !!!
Some grooves are simply too deep , for the paint alone to cover. I was even thinking of getting a new set of aftermarket wheels , to replace those damaged wheels completely. But my wife said that , she likes the stock look , and so do I . I wouldnt mind getting them professionally finished , if the price is reasonable , and the results are really so good.

Wheel Doctor fixed the serious curb rash on two of my Blitz Technospeed 3 piece 18 inch wheels and they look pretty terrific. Especially considering the wheels had a clear coat finish and the repair could not replace that finish. The repaired wheels compared to new were only detectable by very close inspection of the surface light reflection on the outside wheel edge.
Wheel Doctor also fixed a Porsche 17 inch factory Cup 1 wheel that had extensive scraps on the spokes and the wheel is as good as new. If there is a problem it would be in matching the 'new' with the old. So if you can get a pair done at the same time (same side) or all four, that is best.
I don't know what they or others usually charge but my fixes cost $150 for each wheel. For reference, the Blitz cost ~$750 a wheel new. Not sure about the cost of a new/used factory cup1 wheel. All work was done in the last two months or so. I'm one very happy customer.

I actually just got off the phone with Danny (Wheel Doctor) and he charges $150/wheel to refinish and make minor repairs. Extra $50/wheel if you want that "hyper silver" or "hyper black" shadow chrome look. Turn around time sounds like 2-4 days depending on finish desired. He is booking for next week at this time.
If I can't get a deal on a second set of wheels, then I'll probably do this.
P.S. This includes pickup and reinstallation. Completely turnkey. (Not turkey, for those with Thanksgiving on the brain...)

The problem with most 3 piece, and definitely with BBS, is that you need to use a new seal and new bolts [ like $15/wheel for a new set], and get the torque right [145 inch pounds].
Too little and they will leak. Too much and the bolts will fail. High temps from track use tend to bring on these failures. Its sure not rocket science, but there are some things to watch.

Wheeldoctor/Dan , picked up my 4 turbotwists , from my 996.
I took them off myself. And he personally picked them up.
Will (hopefully) deliver those back soon , in much better condition!
Mine were curbdamaged , every single wheel.....
I did some touch up work with silver paint myself. They turned out OK , from 10 feet.....but every single time I washed the wheels , I saw the damage on those wheels. I simply couldnt watch it anymore!
And I think 600 for 4 wheels , back to almost as good as new condition is money well spent.
Will let you know how good they came out , when I get them back.

My son Joe is working on a '76 Toyota landcruiser and asked the Wheel Doctor if he could completely strip and repaint five older wheels and return them to like new condition in the specific color grey he wanted. I don't know how long it took but it seemed pretty quick and the end products are 'like new' with the factory look and finish.

Anybody have the Wheel Dr. number handy?
Tony, I'm trading some outter halfs with a guy I met on Pelican. He said he called BBS and they told him the torque was 21 ft lbs. I also read 14 ft lbs. somewhere on Pelican. Does anyone know if the same bolts are used for the BBS Motorsport Wheels and the RS wheels?
(I consider this hearsay.) I don't know how to convert.
Do you just multiply / divide by 12?
If anyone has any BBS parts or bent wheels, let me know!

Not sure about Wheel worx or wheel doctor... may be very capable.
I do know both Ye Ol' wheel's quallity, and capability... yes they are a little slow sometimes.. I think that has to do with my 1st two points in addition to the fact that they do a lot of national business also!
At least we've got choices huh?

Got my 996 wheels back today..... the results are simply amazing !!!!
They came out as good as new !!!
I couldnt find any visible damage on them anymore.
I would say , clearly worth the 150 per wheel they charge.
The only thing that did go wrong , was the delivery... Dan said they were ready last Friday , but somehow (?) they were left undelivered. For a week..... They came today.(Friday)
But even with that , I will highly recommend Wheel Doctor & Dan.
If anyone needs picture proof , I have pics before & after.
As the uploading of pics here is not that easy ( atleast for me it is not ... ),
just PM me with your e-mail address where you want the pics to be sent to .
And I e-mail some before & after pics.

Wheel Doctor just finished my Racing Dynamics BMW M3 wheels and Dan does a great job. $150/ wheel is a reasonable price for local re-finisher.

Wheel Doctor just redid 4 wheels for me at $175 per wheel, that included straightening 2 bent rims. They look perfect and straightened wheels now balance up nicely. 4 days total, not counting the weekend.

Attempted to call the Wheel Doctor (Dan) a couple of times and he never calls back. Any other recommendations here in the VA area.
Thanks,

Euro Pros handles Wheel Doctor's drop-offs and pick-ups. I think I even paid Euro Pros last time Wheel Doctor did some work for me.

Dan (Wheel Dr) didn't return my call but I caught him the other day (middle of the day). You may want to just try him until you catch him in person, seems like a really nice guy.

Not exactly sure how far you are along in the Process now but I recently just had Ye Olde Wheel Shop redo a set of new GT3 wheels for me. Did an awesome job and would recommend them to anyone.
