As previously promised this coming Saturday 11/13/04 will be an open lift day at the Taj to replace in some small way the canceled tech inspection. The shop will be open from 8 a.m. till 3:30 p.m. (I have to go to a “bored” meeting at 4) 2 dozen Fat Pills and coffee in the a.m. and we will do a head count and pitch in for pizza around noon. (Sorry, no PBR allowed on the property, Rolling Rock long necks, equivalent or better only)
I expect the already planned work to take until about noon so there should still be some lift time open.

------- ---Contact me if you need lift time or directions to the house---------

Already scheduled to appear and in order of attempt

911 rear wheel bearing replacement using the SIR bearing puller/press.

911 oil return tube replacement.

911 brake pad, line and fluid replacement.

Boxster look over.

All except poseurs, miscreants and the excessively flatulent are welcome.

Thanks for the offer and hosting the event but unfortunately we'll be out of town this weekend so I'm going to miss all the fun

Here's to hoping all the projects are a great success :)

Bob and Richard. Could you moonlight as an exterminator by tenting houses and then just staying in them for a day?

Vu, just put a thumb print in the hood or something and your in.

Once again, I will be in CT for a wedding . 5th wedding in 6 weeks, and 4 of them have been in CT. Atleast they have all had open bars, I try and drink enough to justify the tolls between NoVA and CT http://www.914club.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/drunk.gif

Have fun :!:

Kurt, can I drop off the oil line "unkinking" kit tonight? Call me at 703.851.2957. I have some new rubber stoppers for the kit and, since I won't be around this weekend, I'd like to make sure the kit finds it's way to the Taj. Thanks!

I've been in New Jersey since Wednesday, and will not be back for the gathering at Kurt's tomorrow. One of my coworkers is bringing over his brother's Boxster for a Dorki review. His name is Taz. Please give him a big Dorki welcome!

Thanks,

The kit is on site.

All right, a FNG with a Boxster! Should I show him the Kirby road test track or should we just break out the air guns and part it out?

It was a great turnout....as always I learned quite a bit from Kurt and got many ideas for my own garage. I hope to be like Kurt when I grow up.

Of course there was quite a bit of smack talking as well :)

Pari was a mess after changing his half shafts, several others got “dirty” too. Though most of use just got donut and pizza debris on our hands and shirts. Kurt’s play ground, Kurt’s rules 8)

What, only the brown ones are ghetto, I see how it is  .
If you all are going to give my garage a shameless plug, at least get the name right it's GhettoFab Motorwerks, Jeez :| . It's ok, I understand because I recognize who's sloppy handwriting that is . The least you guys could have done was give me some brown masking tape, blue :? .
Vu, weren't you telling me how you wear special gloves to polish your wheels so that you don't break a nail? Maybe you should just give up on using hands and lick them till their all nice and shiny   .

Because the other Dorki's were either sitting around eating doughnuts, politicing like they were running for office, or talking smack. Look closer at the back of my sweatshirt in the photos, that's where my grime went. Aside from Kurt and I, the only other guys that got their hands dirty in true Dorki fashion were John (OldTee), Marc A., and Dave(an engnr). Thanks guys for your help.
Big thanks to Kurt for showing me how to replace the rear wheel bearings properly and for hosting the open lift day. There is no more grinding noise from the rears, the wheels feel planted and I noticed an increase in 10hp. overall it is a shockingly smooth ride  . The fronts are another story  . After adjusting the front wheel bearings on Saturday, the front end feels much worse. I am going to replace the bearings this week.
It was nice meeting some new people like Taz, Dave (an engnr), and Richard Curtis.

One of the better Saturday mornings I've spent; certainly one of the most educational Porsche-wise. Nice meeting a bunch of Dorkis, making new friends and seeing three -- count 'em -- three 964s in one spot. Siberian (sp?): let me know when you're ready to change out the motor mounts.

Yo PARI - i helped remove a heat shield and got a smidge of dirt on my hands - does that count?

Great meeting some faces behind the posts and to do some bench racing, RRII watching, and plenty of BS'ing. Plus, it was fun watching Kurt school the faithful and learn while doing to!

Oh and Kurt - for the dorki award "Leschander", loved the "...ever so slightly worn parts..." bit

Thanks for taking care of Taz and his brother's Boxster. I understand what was thought to be a wheel bearing heading south was actually a parking brake problem. It sounds like he spent some $ getting bearings replaced at a Porsche dealership when they may have been okay...

In fact I did not see any traces that the bearings had been replaced :x
The bolt heads had dirt on them and all the dirt in the hub area looked undisturbed. All that was wrong was a little spring plate that keeps the Em. brake pads from rattling had one of two little clips break off. This let one side iof the clip slip out and contact the Em. drum. We found it in the PET and it shows two clips. he has the part # to get a replacement.

He did not go to HBL I hope.

Kurt,

This should be an interesting journey with your knowledge and means to critique work done by your employer. I am quite sure that at some point you will see somebody on your lift that has an issue either partially or incorrectly resolved! What an intruiging situation....

It was Arlington Porsche. If it had been HBL, you probably would have been strolling through the service bays looking at the mechanical systems, and noticed the mechanics scratching their heads; then you would have looked at the car for a few minutes and found the problem for them! 8)
