Just checking in to see how everyone is coping and curious how this is impacting your hobby.
I think prices may soften a bit this season due to the economic impact of the virus.
According to the CDC, I’m in the dead pool, so I am doing my part to devalue the collection. Drove the GT3 to work yesterday and again today :D
With fewer players literally and economically, I may also reach for the next one
See you at the track :)

Virus alert hit my neighborhood last night. Someone infected at the church in DC was at a church around the corner from my house every day for about 10 days in late February/ early March. Also a couple people associated with the public school system went on self-quarantine yesterday. Thankfully I do not interact with churches since they cast me our a couple thousand years ago.
Been pumping some $$ into my SEP IRA and brokerage accounts. I'm sure there is a lower bottom, but I'm happy buying in when there is a sale even if not a liquidation.

Yup - Fully funding the 401k at an accelerated rate. Should max out the year shortly. I figure a few more confirmed cases in the DC area and NASA/NOAA will be closed down and tele-working as we have already been holding readiness drills.

Yesterday, Fairfax County Public Schools announced that we'll be closed on Monday to train us teachers in online instruction.
While I think it is prudent to plan ahead, I can't help but feel that if I were making instructional videos, the wall behind me might violate some school policies. :p

Less than 250 at our SP DEs...
And not really a 'gathering' as people are dispersed over a pretty big area.
Hell, I'd be more concerned about being at a Tech Inspection, holed up in a poorly ventilated service bay with 35 of your closest friends, many of whom have runny noses and are sneezing with great velocity due to season allergies

My other hobby of skiing has been cancelled by proclamation of the Governor of Colorado and by Vail/Epic who own many resorts across the country. Skiing seems like a low exposure, low risk outdoor activity, particularly if you don't mix groups on lift chairs and you close the gondolas. But most ski areas have closed anyway. I'm afraid this trend may continue for my other hobby of track driving even though West Virginia is reporting zero cases at the moment.

We were supposed to go to Breck in 2 weeks... not any longer. Of course, the closing down of resorts and the mandated evacuation of all non-residents from Summit County, CO aren't covered by the trip insurance I bought for our Epic Passes. We'll see what Vail/Epic does for pass holders. Condo people have already offered day-for-day credit for next season... very nice of them. And the airlines have waived change fees, but not cancellation fees, so I'm now planning ANOTHER ski trip for next year. Bummed, but it is what it is.

At the front end of something in a country large as ours you will see "exponential" growth in the early stages.

As part of my DE/racing support gear I bought a Shock Doctor unite. SD uses ozone to defunk helmets, gloves, suites and more. Ozone is is also recommended to clean CPAP machines, hoses and masks. Which because of my sleep apnea I use a CPAP rig every night. So I’ve been repurposing my SD to clean my CPAP gear too.
Fast forward to the current emergency and I find:
“Ozone gas has been proven to kill the SARS coronavirus and since the structure of the new 2019-nCoV coronavirus is almost identical to that of the SARS coronavirus, it is relatively safe to say that it will also work on the new coronavirus though it must be noted that there is no studies to date except one that is current ongoing n China at the Institute of Virology In Hubei with regards to this. Progress of that study has shown that it works and the study should be concluded by the end of this week and officially published in the journal Virology”
So now I’m going to use the SD to extend the life of the few masks, cloves and other gear I have.
And I know ozone gas is a carcinogen and bad for the ecology.
Vicegrip

Ground level O3 is not bad for the planet. O3 decomposes back into O2 or combines quickly
It leaves no residual other than the results of combining. It has been used for many years to kill virus, bacteria, mold and fungus. I have watched it eat through a car that was covered in fine white fuzz. It sat for a couple months with wet carpets and it was a hot mess. The O3 disintegrated the stuff. Was intending on making the car safe to clean and it surpassed expectations.
I have a 120 volt corona discharge type (fitting name no?) ozone generator. For this event I use it to clean the car and purchases. After shopping I place it in the car leaving everything other than frozen food in the car. Give it a couple hours then open the hatch and a door for a couple min. Done. No muss no fuss no missed contact point missed. You can smell ozone in very low concentrations. If you can’t smell it you are not being exposed. A walk in a forest exposes you to epa excess levels of ozone. It is that faint electric / fresh air smell.
Be careful of the units. They need to be able to make lots of O3. It dissipates quickly and you need to generate it at a rate that produces the proper concentrations. Many do not have the power to disinfect a car or room.
O3 eats stink too. Someone smoke, the carpets get wet or a mouse go tits up in your car? An hour or so and some of that with the HVAC running and gone.

The SDs have a heat option too. Which I only used in the summer months to quickly dry helmets, gloves etc. between runs We’ve also used the Shock Doctor to freshen old books and other items in storage to long. Actually quite handy for a number of things.

no surprise the luxury car market also feeling the crunch. besides SUVs / "normal" vehicles in the article, also are a few supercar callouts (a couple of which i've never heard of...a 2000hp lotus???)
https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/the-year-s-hottest-new-cars-just-got-cold-as-ice-1.1416838
Spurred by a heady stock market, super expensive, super fast sports cars were enjoying a moment until March arrived. Porsche had big plans to roll out the 640-horsepower, muscle-y 911 Turbo S version of its franchise machine with group media drives. Instead, the company delivered the 640-horsepower machines one by one via fleet drivers prepped on disinfection and social distancing. Porsche’s German manufacturing plants in Zuffenhausen and Leipzig have been silent since March 21, and Porsche Experience Centers in L.A. and Atlanta, where the Porsche-curious take test drives and track lessons, sit empty.
The US$225,000 Ferrari Roma super car debuted in November in, of course, Rome. But a total Ferrari production halt on March 14 included production of the 611-horsepower, V8 Roma, which was supposed to roll into dealerships toward the end of the year. Ferrari hopes to eventually make up for the lost production with additional shifts. “No material impacts on deliveries and waiting list are foreseen at the moment,” a spokesperson says.
Over in England, the US$1.7 million McLaren Elva super car packs a punch: 804 horsepower on a V8 engine and rear-wheel drive. It’ll do zero to 124 mph in just 6.7 seconds, which makes it faster than its sibling, the track-suited Senna. McLaren had planned to build just 399 of them, each one customized through the company’s special-ops MSO division and delivered at the end of 2020.
“We will continue with all possible design and engineering activities that we can at this stage,” says Roger Ormisher, vice president of communications at McLaren. The carmaker will “then finalize physical development once staff are back at MTC, with the plan to deliver Elva into production as close as we can to Q4 2020.”
Finally, Lotus is trying to piece together its first new vehicle in more than a decade. The machine, dubbed Evija, is stunning—and costs US$2.1 million.
Shaped like a spaceship with trimmed sides and massive wheels, it boasts nearly 2,000 horsepower generated from four electric motors, as well as a zero-to-60 mph sprint of fewer than three seconds. Only 130 will be built by the legendary U.K. automaker. As for when they will be built, that will be determined later. Production has halted at Lotus’s Norwich headquarters while engineers continue tweaking designs from home.
“The vehicle development process is as it was—just not in the offices,” says Rob Borrett, a company spokesman. Super car architects, it turns out, are just like the rest of us. They Zoom.

^^^ So my experience has been contrary to the experts. I sold the SC mid March and the 911-50 this month. The buyer for the C2S backed out of a full price offer and I decided to keep her because I’m not ready to let her go until I find a replacement.
IMHO people are bored surfing the net and buying good cars at very strong prices. Most dealerships are closed and I suspect that might all change when things start to open up. YMMV
