It's that time of year again - woo hoo!!!

As for the Annual Non-Club Sanctioned Ruby Summit Point gathering, we are switching it up a bit this year. N0tt0n is going to tag along with his (way) better half and will miss this which means no gumbo , but inspired by the Jeffapalooza folks (secret code here) - we are going to do a Chili Cook-Off at our house on Friday night! :drums:

A few folks have already stepped forward as competitors - namely Mark Francis. If you have an interest in competing, let me know via PM. Basically, come with a big crock pot or a 8-10 quart pot of chili.

So - all folks that are invited to "Volunteer Day" are invited, along with any dorki's that want to come up. (if you are not invited to Vday, don't fret you can come anyway) I'll figure out how to count heads as we get closer. We will supply the cornbread, snacks, drinks, dessert, bowls, spoons, etc.

Vehicles with clearance encouraged. There will be limited Pcar parking and a little walk for those that don't get the primo spots.

So who is in for the November event? If you were waiting to see if the paving completed on schedule to sign up - go for it - it is DONE. Just some painting to do. I tagged along in the backseat with some BSR staff today for a slow lap. Looks NIIIIIIICE. Some extra room in a few places too.

Michael is driving, I am not.

Car is fine. We'll just be out of town. Colleen is running a half-marathon down in Florida with some friends. I guess for this event they had to sign up a year in advance (i.e. before DE schedule for the year) so it was a risk.

We'll miss everyone though so have fun!

I will miss this event because I'll be working at SEMA that week. It will be my first time missing the Last DE in 5 years. Hope everyone have good runs and a safe weekend. And looking forward to hear reviews on the fresh pavement.

Just got the final upgrade of the year (I hope) installed. I didn't think I would get these until February because the color had to be special ordered, so I put on new rotors and pads before VIR and then the week after I got a call they were in...

Looks like Shenandoah is going to be soaked so I can't wait to try them on Main.

Up and down with the weather. Full run groups. Some new faces in green. (a product of the fall HPDC) Should be a great weekend!

Railside's first weekend at the Chez Summit helm. A word about that - for those that are wondering - Deanna and her crew will be sticking to the basic Chez Summit format but with Railside quality and prep methods in place. Given that the Chez location needs to serve a large number of folks quickly at lunch time, they thought it best to start there and then tailor as they go along in subsequent weekends. Be sure to stop in either location and say hello and a few encouraging words. This is a big leap for them.

For the Chili Cookoff - we have some very creative (and scary) names form our competitors:
- Mrs. White, in the Green Room, with the Poblanos Chili
- OGRe’s Delight Chili
- Flat Out Chili
- Barking Spider Chili
- Turn 10 Soo-ee Debris – Pork Bourbon Chili

See y'all soon! :)

Quick summary of the weekend for me.

Christened the track with some gravel and dirt on Friday. My gear linkage has been sloppy for a while. It finally caught me. Couldn't find the gear I wanted so...

Thanks SSI for the stronger rods and rod bolts! As you can see I need them.

Then on Saturday I planted some groundhog firmly into the track surface on the front straight and followed up with some coolant. Sorry TryTryAgain/RubberDucky! I was driving his car for instructor mentoring. Earlier in the day I was instructing the green classroom students how it's best to not make any drastic maneuvers at high-speed to avoid wildlife. We'll, I demonstrated that well to the Green run group.

I also stared in my very own vanity cam production. GoPro Hero Session 5 rocks. Amazing video quality. Camera angle turned out to be pretty cool. I didn't plan for it to be at that angle but that's about the levelest I could get it with the mount I had.

Repaved track was excellent. A bit diabolical under braking the first day but with warm tires it really felt great. Excellent job Summit Point!

Great seeing everyone. Had a blast and will be eagerly awaiting the spring.

This weekend was just okay from a personal level. I set a personal best the second session of Saturday (1'25.6) and then my times steadily increased the rest of the weekend until the final sessions Sunday I could only do 27s and 28s. I think my tires are finally going off, especially after my Sunday skidpad session.

The only thing I can say definitively from the data (:D) is I was slower through 10 which caused me to be 6-8 mph slower at the end of the straight, and I wasn't being smooth through 8-9. I had to correct slides through all three of those corners and I wonder if that made me a little gun shy.

Anyway, here's a video of red/black. Not as exciting as the videos other people posted, but if you want to see yourself smoking by someone and taking off into the distance, I may have you. I thought I was pretty evenly matched car-wise with the Caymans and Boxsters, but some of them just pull hard on me. Maybe tires? A 3.91 diff with upgraded limited slip is the plan for next year.

And here's a bonus video taken at Shenandoah the weekend before. Some skidpad fun and a new personal best of 9+ laps.

As said before another great weekend. Thanks to Evan for making me look good at his data presentation:cool:. The new pavement is interesting, once some rubber was laid down grip really picked up and every session got a little bit better. My only complaint with the new surface is there is a bump at apex in 4 which can be a bit unnerving at times. The added camber and the mostly smooth surface really made my lap times fall. My previous best before the weekend was a 1.24.7 and consistent 1.25s but it was shattered with a 1.23.4 :D and was consistently in the high 1.24s which for a 150hp 944 on 30+ heat cycle tires is pretty freakin good. I think there is even a possibility of a high 1.22.x :shock:if the conditions are right.

The track on Sunday felt AWESOME. Saturday was interesting. And I missed out on Friday. I will say I got a bit spooked during the first session :D t1 was really inconsistent. Through the corner it was slippy then grippy then slippy again and then no grip coming out. 6 was another now where there was a ton of grip at turn in then nothing until about half way around. And 10. I will always hate 10. But 10 had a slippery spot right in the middle of the turn. Then it would go back to grippy. That one got in my head.

That was Saturday. Sunday afternoon the track started to feel like there was consistent grip everywhere. A sway bar adjustment helped as well. I saw high 23's in traffic which is at least 2 seconds faster than typical. That can only mean that the Punk might be right. There are 22's out there in race conditions. Maybe.

Anyway. Here's the Red/Black session form Sunday

Great vids everyone, glad to see your using them hehe.

Vranko, if you like the vanity cam, try the HOLY CRAP MY FEET ARE SLOW CAM....point it at your feet, watch your transition from brake to throttle, and downshifts etc......ALOT of time can be found there IMO....from good shifts, to really getting back to throttle and blending the braking zone into the corner (turning is braking)
first time i did it my mind was blown and really helped make a concious effort to either be braking or giving some % of gas (even if 5 or 10) rather than hovering or coasting.

Hunt i still cant get over how well the SPB does at turn in when on the brakes hard, its like they just wont understeer, Chris Drakes video was very similar...expected you both to understeer like mad into one at initial turn in and the car just turns.

did you ever look to see if staying in 4th and bouncing off the revs was faster then going 5th back to 4th? that shift point SUX for you guys

Thank you guys

Turn in is fantastic on these cars. It was a little too good with the new paving. Muscle memory being what it is I found I was too aggressively turning in and correcting then understeering in 1 and 6. In T1 before I could get a bit of a 4 wheel slide for just a moment after turn in, set and back on the gas and drive it out. As you saw that does't work like it did before :D Too much initial turn in grip so the back gets a bit loose. That definitely got better over the course of the weekend.

5th or 4th really depends on how I get out of 10. On a good lap in the 24's I will generally have to go to 5th as I'll start hitting the limiter before the 5 marker. That makes for a busy brake zone if I'm trying to go deep. On a lap in the 25's or higher I can hold 4th until the 4 or 3.5 marker. I have the same dilemma at NJMP. I admit I am remiss in not looking very closely at the data.

Thanks for the explanation as I was try to figure out if the car was pushing. That explains it.

You were doing just great until you got stuck behind that FoFo... Who was that guy? He suddenly woke up and disappeared.

I really like the new surface. And to those snobs who said the track was going to lose all of its character...WRONG.

Braking into T1 and T3 is now an event. Weird understeer through T1 (though I expect that will diminish as it gets rubbered in). T3 is now smooth, but T4 has a new reminder why you need to be ON THROTTLE well before apex. T5 is similar. T6 has a little more camber -- exciting since it's such an important corner. T7/8 are slipppppery, and T9 hasn't lost much drama. Without a doubt, my new favorite corner is T10 -- there's an additional 5mph, maybe more.

Bummer, I'm still a bit rusty but close in most corners (faster in 9) except 10. I'm down about 2-2.5 mph :( which is costing me about .5 from 10 to braking for 1. Not sure what the deal is there.

Thanks for the vids. My camera is still in my car.

Excellent observation. I agree on the weird understeer, you gotta trail brake in order to get on power hard before the apex. The weekend with PCA that was the case. I went back with NASA for the time trial event and even on a 19-25 degree day Saturday car was 2 FULL Seconds faster as more tires are getting on the surface but above all your observation (like carrying more speed, which corner is faster etc.) is exactly what I found from after event video. I think the rain washed away a bit of speed on Sunday (when with PCA).
