Man do I feel stupid, so let me start by saying a friend ask me to see if anyone had a suggestion for this question....

I....no he... just picked up a 2010 911S. the "Check engine oil level" displayed and the red warning light. after reading the manual and attempting to get to the main menu ....no luck.... seems to be stuck either showing MPH radio station and miles / check engine oil / info message (under ) service
or limit [ recall messages] and under the limit is info. moving the handle up 3 times or down 4 times ( or many times) it just rotates back to one of those display. I think its broke. but.... I am hoping for the specials Porsche decoder ring trick.... suggestions

Dump Question: Does a red "Check Engine Oil Level" light mean you (I mean him) have/has an oil pressure problem?

After the car has been off for at least 55 minutes insert the key and turn 1 position and watch the dash display in the center. Is that what you were asking?

Also, pull the stalk rearward to select a menu item after navigating to it using the up and down movement.

yes the red light is on too.

Yes, but it could just be low oil level. That's why checking the level is the first step. Since you don't have to start the car (in fact it will make you wait an hour after turning it off) it is safe to check.

Also, the 997 (unlike the 987) has an actual oil pressure sensor and gauge. If the oil level is low (best case) then you can add oil, start the car, and recheck to pressure gauge. The oil light will hopefully not come back on on the restart.

? shaft has 4 possible movements. pull (up) push (down) then like a turn signal down or up....

I was pretty sure the turn signal like up and down navigated the menu and the pull rearward selected the menu item. Sorry if I mixed that up. If any of the 4 directions don't do anything then it is broken as you said.

thanks....

I called the dealership where I purchased it.... "before I tell you what the car is doing you need to know I am on a flip phone"

The writer ended up suggesting I put a quart of oil in .... drive 7 or 8 miles and it might correct itself....other wise lets make an appointment. So i'll make an appointment in the morning. For my buddy ;)

thanks again.

You appear to be having an issue with using the correct and consistent pronouns. Good Luck.

recalibrate oil level - it's probably fine
