Sorry fellas, but it seems that Isabel got us. My son and I left this morning at 8 am to test the route for next weekend but unfortunately south of Middleburg and Warrenton we kept encountering fallen trees, standing water and road closures as a result of the storm. We finally turned around and just walked back in the door now.
Since I won't be able to test the route again before next weekend and I don't feel comfortable sending 20+ cars out blind my vote is to cancel the run.
If anyone else wants to step up and organize a different route feel free to do so but at this point I'm out as the organizing effort.
As a teaser, this route was going to start in The Plains and basically follow a butterfly pattern on the map reaching North to Middleburg, west to Flint Hill, south to Faquier White and east to Elk Run. 85%+ of the roads were going to be new so hopefully we can use the route again sometime in the future.

Doug,
Thank you for your efforts. Let's say postponed not cancelled. :D The route you mentioned sounds great, can't wait to run it. I'll still take point when we do go. Damn you, Isabel, I spit on you! pptt (spitting at ground)
Sorry Charlie I just couldn't resist.
guys-
Its still so early to call it quits...maybe the trees/standing water/road closures will open up by the time of the run...or am i still daydreaming??

Doug, Ted or Greg.
If someone can PM me the route/directions, I'll be happy to check out the route later this week and report my findings. I'm on vacation this week so I have plenty of time. Shoot, I could even clear the route.

Aurghhh!!
If Isabel didn't kill the fun run, last night's rain sure must've. We got 5+ inches overnight here in Loudoun, power's still out...
I couldn't drive my car today even if I wanted to since the gravel and debris on the road out of Waterford to Route 9 (west of Leesburg) was 8" deep in mud and stones the whole way to Route 9. More trees down too, not from wind but ground saturation.
Needed the 4x4 this morning...what another bloody mess.

Doug, I agree with "postponed", since we're getting into the nice-driving-weather time of the year. Sounds like a great route - let's do it another day!
This weekend was not looking to good for me. Our power is still out  and I'm in Boston until late tomorrow...

I've been out in Loudoun and Fauquier a couple of times this week and the back roads seem to be iffy, in that there's a lot of loose debris like twigs, branches, and gravel which appear to have been left from clearing felled trees or washed onto the surface. There are also many rivulets from runoff crossing the roads and in several places the roads are under puddles 3-6" deep. Some of these conditions pop up around a corner or over a hilltop. I haven't driven Doug's route but would guess the route conditions are the same. If there are any diehards out there thinking the run is doable this weekend, think again.
