My two year old Generac propane generator is a quart or so low on oil and, apparently, blowing it as white smoke out the exhaust. Pretty sure its oil not coolant due to its smell and the coolant level is ok. Compression is even across the cylinders at 235 psi. It runs off a 2.4l 4 cyl turbo from mitsubishi (@1800 rpm). The turbo is oil cooled (no water loop going to it). Genset has about 60 hours runtime on it.
So, to keep from having this going out again, I'm thinking of using a separate oil loop for the turbo which keeps the system pressurized for a minute or so after shutdown. I can find bits and pieces of systems like this online (for instance http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/oilsystems.htm), but has anyone here ever implemented one of these?
