Hey everyone,

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up about online parts seller, PartsGeek.com. These guys run quite a scam operation and I want to make sure no one else gets screwed by these guys.

They lure you in with low prices, but they have established quite a reputation for sending the wrong part. You're thinking, "Ok, no biggie. I contact them and send the part back and get the right one." Except it's not that easy or straight forward. For starters, there is no phone number to call. You can only contact them via email. You receive a generic form letter telling you to return the part at YOUR expense. And there will be a 15% restocking fee even though they made the mistake.

They are counting on you deciding that it isn't cost effective to return the part. They get their money and you're stuck with junk. If you do return the part, you lose 15% of your refund plus you're out the shipping charges so once again they make money off you.

They currently have an "F" rating with the New Jersey BBB with over 667 complaints in just the past 3 years and are under in investigation by the NJ Atty. Generals office.

Do yourself a favor. Even if the price is a bit higher, order from somewhere else. In the end, you will be money ahead.

Exactly my experience, each time I got the wrong parts, and when I called I was told that I can't simply exchange, I have to return and re-order, then it would take months of calls to get money back for the return. Never dealing with these crooks again.

I have purchased from them for the last several years and had no issues. It has been about 6 months since I last purchased. Maybe something has changed since then. Thanks for the FYI

So what's a known-good alternative? RockAuto?

Despite my recent experience with rock auto, I'll continue to use them for non esoteric parts. They normally send the right stuff and the one time they didn't they refunded immediately without hassle.

I've had the same bad experience. If you get the right part that is not defective, great. If you get the wrong part or a defective part, there is very poor customer service.

I will not order from them again!

I have had several issues with RockAuto, wrong parts etc.

FWIW, RockAuto has been good to me, and I've bought a bunch for a variety of cars & trucks. Maybe once or twice got the wrong part, but they always made good. On the other hand, some stuff ended up being garbage, though it usually started out as a deal "too good to pass up". Lesson learned: You get what you pay for. I've decided to trust RockAuto for anything that's not safety or performance oriented. ;)

Partsgeek would not refund after sending the wrong part. They had a catalog issue, a bad number listing, and still tried to tell me it was correct. I even supplied the correct listing from the manufactures website and they still denied a refund. The factory packaging listed the cars the part would fit and not one was my car or even a P-car.
I did get the refund after an attack on their Facebook about the problem.
