I did a ton of work on the car this weekend :D . I finished up most of the engine details, and with Charlie's help the tranny looks close to new again. I figured I would post some pictures and see if anyone had any ideas or comments before I started pulling everything together.

That is amazing indeed. What did you use to clean the gunk off?

Looking at that must make you feel even better about the steal you got with that car.

Eric,

That does look beautiful, definitely a transformation to be proud of. Can't wait to see the body work when its complete as well.

And I thought you were joking when you said you went through a box of latex gloves weekly

Nice work! Did that thing run before you started on your project?

The car did run (poorly) before I pulled the engine and started cleaning and painting it. I was able to drive the car 70 miles as is, just to see how it ran / shifted so that I could address other problems that came up while driving it.

I started by pulling everything off the engine and used brake cleaner and some small brushes to strip most of the caked on grease off of the heat exchangers, and off the area around the oil breather. Then I used one of those paint stripping pads that you put in a drill and went over many of the problem rust area's, masked it off and painted it with the high temp paint. The tranny was a bit harder, it took about a half gallon of degreaser charlie's pressure washer to take care of it. All things considered it took about 2 weekends to take care of everyhting.

Thanks everyone for the feedback! Now I want to hurry up and get it back in the car and get out on the road :D
