So, in reassembling the head / VANOS on the BMW, "something" went "tink, tink, tink" down the channel where the timing chain runs. Looked the best I could with a flashlight and skinny magnet, but couldn't see anything.

Last night, I realized that I'm now missing part #3, which is holding up the reassembly. Looked through all the baggies of parts, and it was nowhere to be found. Here is the diagram (part number 3):

Would that washer be too big to make it all the way down to the oil pan? Or, do you think it's just wedged in the channel leading to the oil pan? I'm not sure how thick it gets further down the channel.

It was suggested to get a borescope, and maybe look through the oil plug hole to see if anything made it down there.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Rob

You really should just bring the car to Curry's and let them take care of it.

RobI have one you can use.* I ask that you take reasonable care of it and return it promptly. I will be around this afternoon and evening.

*It is the one I bought to replace the one that someone borrowed and did not return.

Don't forget to bring the title to your car. After being screwed over by multiple tool borrowers, Kurt now requires your title as collateral against return of his tools. ..or he should

Knowing the quality of tools Kurt keeps, the b-scope is probably worth more than the car.:D
