PCA Potomac Autocross registration is open for Autocross # 2 on June 30 2012.
Walk up registration is $45 and preregistered participants pay $35 on our PCAPotomac.org website.
Our first event this year was fun and exciting. We had a Cayenne and a Panamera participate. It was great fun seeing these cars on course.
If you have never driven an autocross, be prepared for the cones to come at you faster than you will ever expect and be ready for the challenge of memorizing the course. To me driving an autocross is much like skidpad and a bit like Shenandoah Circuit with less speed. You will be very active in your seat and learn much about the dynamics of your car. It is exciting, fun, and best of all you are timed and will see immediate results in your ability to drive your car on our course.
See you at Bowie Baysox Stadium on the 30th.

Can non-Pcar people register? I'm trying to get my buddy into driving events; he drives a BMW 330i. This time around it may be moot (as I may be out of town) but it'd be great if I could bring him along to the next one I go to.

Collin,
Yes, we do take non-Pcars. They run in our Guest Class. We have several Cobra's that participate regularly.

For those who haven't done it, I definitely recommend autocrossing with PCA Potomac. The parking lot at Baysox stadium is good sized, has some nice elevation changes, and provides opportunity for some straights where you can build up some speed.

Been looking forward to it for almost a month. A little 100 degree weather isn't going to keep me away!

I promised myself i would do one this year. 100 degrees will be a tough sell with no a/c.

Kudos to everyone that's planning to come out tomorrow. We will have plenty of water on hand. And are going to try a few things to minimize course worker's time out on the pavement. Let's call it our "hot strategy". ;)

Who says you can't run a/c on the course ;). With my times I'm sure it wouldn't matter anyway.

It no picnic sitting on the grid with no a/c in an air cooled car. Was going to run the Targa. :(

I'm not going to make it. Large tree branch crashed through our roof and a large tree took out the entire side of our neighbors house. No one hurt.
Thank goodness no one got hurt, but wow--hope it turns out okay.

Thanks Dr. K. Not much damage to my house. Two holes in the roof all the way through the celling. I cleaned up the major debris this morning and made it to the autocross  I just finished cleaning up the roof and putting temporary patches over the holes. We'll see how they hold up in tonight's storms.

Was a nice day! 7 runs. 2 heats. Maybe 50 people? Steady breeze kept the heat manageable (imho). Short rewarding course that kept everyone honest too.

Big thanks to Cindy and Tony and the rest of the Potomac Autocross team. Great course, heat was not a problem, and the sliced watermelon provided to everyone was a thoughtful touch.

Indeed, a big thanks to all the organizers and helpers. Also thanks to Bill for reminding me about the brake pedal.

Yes, this coming Saturday. Thanks to everyone who volunteered and helped out - we had a lot more runs in a lot less time than usual.

We had a great day on Saturday and I look forward to a another great event on July 7

When do you guys anticipate posting the results from Saturday? Helps to have that context. Plus, I'm suspecting that Annabelle is starting to move up from the bottom of the pack, partly due to my incisive advice: "go faster!"

Interesting to see that many of the fastest drivers (eg, Gary) were quite consistent in their times across all of their runs.

Given the Heat wave potential last weekend, we had tried for the first time dual gridding, and running 2 sessions per Heat, in order to keep course workers in the sun for no more than 1 hour. Seemed to work pretty well, so will probably be a fall-back position to utilize again if the temps get threatening.

I think the split heat system worked well. To get that many runs and be done as early as we were was nice.
Let's hope that there's at least a bit of a breeze like we had last Saturday.

Split heat should be the rule for 100 degree days. We didn't split the heats in AX#3 and after 2+ hours of working start without shade or a break Denise was so whacked she couldn't beat me... This isn't like her at all.

IMO, split heat should be the rule regardless of temp, since the switchovers add very little time. At the last Chesapeake autox, I had the same experience of working over 2 hours for the first heat, then being really tired when it was finally my turn to drive (surely costing me at least 5 s ;)). The problem was magnified by there being ~26 cars in the first heat and ~16 in the second heat. Would be much better to make the number of cars the same in both heats.
