Need some help on things to check.

Car stopped running on the way up the Estes. Lost power & CEL came on. Engine turns over freely, no smoke, no fluid leakage. So don't suspect engine mechanical issue

DME relay runs Mulligan's car, so that's okay.

What's the best way to check for spark? Same question for fuel?

Which connector in the engine compartment is the reference speed sensor? Can I check its function by resistance?

Thanks for any & all suggestions!

When cranking, does the Tach jump at all?

2 years ago I had some problems with my 964 at VIR and I found Porsche shop at 306 Rabbit Lane, Hillsborough, NC 27278 (Millersport) (919)644-2930

Tach does NOT at all when cranking. Oil pressure rises to about 1bar (15psig)

Sorry meant to say tach does not move at all

Sounds electrical if tach isn't jumping. Check grounds, and for any apparently/obviously loose/disconnected wires.

You can check/confirm spark by removing a plug wire from a spark plug, sticking a plastic/rubber/wooden handled screwdriver where the plug normally attaches, and then have someone crank, while holding the metal of the screwdriver near a clean metal spot on the car/engine (isolate your hand/skin from the screwdriver's metal; a rag around the handle or decent gloves can work. If coil is firing, you should see a nice bluish spark jumping across the gap.

I've run into occasional issues with the alarm system in my 964. To reset it I believe the deal was to get in, close the door, turn key to on, but not start position, turn car off and get out, lock then unlock doors and try to start it. It happened when it got damp in the car and the unit under the seat became "confused". It might be worth a try at least.

I know this sounds like a dumb question, but is your fuel sending unit providing an accurate reading to the gauge? Have you tried putting fuel in it? Otherwise, I might check the fuel pump.

I think I'm ok there. Drove the car down & filled up in South Boston. Only 45 Klee on the trip odometer. I also wonder about the fuel pump. Will try to start the car with "starting fluid". May break a fuel connection at the fuel rail, am cconcerned about the gasoline floating around in the engine compartment. Thanks to everyone for the helP!
