Recently the air bag light came on on the wifes Kia. As some may know, the air bag computer is separate from the engine management computer and thus cannot be re-set or diagnosed with a typical code reader (at least on the Kia) so I was left with taking it to the local dealer here in Winchester. They say they hooked it up and it came back with 2 codes for the side impact sensors and it would be $665. to fix.....WHAT?????... I declined and decided to get a second opinion. I made an appoint with the Kia dealer in Leesburg today and guess what, they found a historical fault (batt low volts) and cleared it....no charge and inspected it as it was due. Total cost at the Leesburg dealer...$18.
Va law states that you cannot pass a safety inspection with a air bag light so I figure that the Stealer in Winchester is playing that card to screw unsuspecting customers on simple shit. So I'm really happy on the one hand, but pissed at on the other. I stopped by the dealer in Winchester on my way home and had some harsh words with the manager as he should at least know whats going on (although he probably already does) and got my original "diagnostic fee" back and I flat told them I"ll never purchase anything from them again and I will be talking to Kia regional about this. :grrr: and :D

Stuff like this is funny. In cases like this, I like to go back to the original guys and give them the benefit of the doubt - ask them:

"Are you dishonest or just incompetent? Because it has to be one or the other."

That's ridiculous. You should consider reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. When you submit the complaint you can opt to make it informative in nature since you already resolved the issue but can request that the delaership be notified.

Sure they do, and no, you don't have to be hard of hearing or piss your pants to use it! :p
