When we watch on TV, the speed of F1 cars does not seem so outrageous to me. The following is an awesome comparison IMO:

I just cannot imagine being literally flat-out and blinking going to Aue-Rouge

Awesome videos. Makes the left side look like it's under full course yellow.

I can't get over the almost constant G forces they have to deal with. Braking & cornering are insane and I doubt there's much relief under acceleration. Maybe they can relax for a 1/2 second when they reach top speed and then feel like their collar bones are going to snap as they hit 4 G's braking into a tight corner. Constant G's for almost 2 hours and still remain focused?

I get bruising on my knee from bracing against my door handle with my max G's being a 1/4 of an F1

Just think of the grip!

This is totally nuts. For some reason it reminds me of the scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark when Indy pulls out his gun and blows away the guy with the sword.

Try to see a GP live. Been to Montreal twice and its unbelievable - also the engine whine. Its killer when there is a yellow and they are keeping the tires warm and revving.

Another note on the yellow flags in F1, notice how hard the Mercedes SLS AMG is working while the F1 cars look like they are crawling.

X2!!
If you've haven't heard those engines live, you're missing out on something that can't be replicated on your home theater system...

That car is a highly modified AMG and he is driving at 99.9%. Actually it amazes me how they've never crashed the thing. At indy it would squeel its tires on and off the entire lap. And, yup, the F1 cars ARE crawling.

For me, 2 things are most impressive, change of direction and the thump you FEEL when they change gears under full acceleration. When they were doing single car quali, Becky and I were ~ turn 12 at Indy and the gear changes would just hit you as a spectator. They say the drivers would feel like they are getting punched in the back w/ea shift.

I still miss the v-10 era and the Ferrari v-12s.

That's just too much. I think they should instate a three cylinder maximum. It would be fun, in a Geo Metro kind of a way.

Remember the Tyrrel with 4 front wheels? I saw that one at SPA in person when I was a kid, it was the coolest thing I had ever seen :D

Although not quite as fast, the Champcars were pretty impressive as well at a fraction of the cost of F1. Went to Montreal to the revived Champcar race held there in 2002. They were 5 secs/lap off the pace of the F1s with about 300 lbs more weight and steel rotors.

We were in GS11. I found all of Montreal to be pretty darned nice. Best thing is to do is figure out what you want to do in the city while you're there, and then find a hotel near there and close to a Subway station. With the subway you can get around pretty much anywhere, including the track. Actually, bus service is very good in the city, too. Get a multi-day pass. One of the smartest things IMHO about Montreal's subway is a single cost for most any station (they charged a premium for only some of the most distant stations). As a result, you usually don't have to "check out" at the destination. People move very efficiently through the system.
