View Full Version : Need metal fittings from 996TT rear wing
Landjet

I need the 2 screw-in metal fittings from a stock 996TT rear wing. They are the mounting hardware that attaches to the hydraulic rams that lift the wing. If you have changed to a fixed rear deck lid and wing, I will buy these fittings from your stock wing.
Kurt, if you see a spare wing hanging around the shop, see if I can buy these fittings from it.
Might have more luck over on 6speed ... there aren't to many water pumper turbos with big wings here

I don't think HBL has any extra wings around.
If the person to person thing does not work out you could order them from your local friendly Dealer if they are Porsche parts.

I tried to buy from the dealer but the fittings are only available with the wing. If you know how to order them separately, please tell me how.
I have an ad on 6speed and Rennlist.

What do the fittings look like? If it's just normal hardware, nuts, bolts, cotter pins, etc. just order some from mcmaster.

It's a unique fitting with an internal connection point. If I knew how to take screen shots I could post a picture.
Is there an easy way to take screen shots on an XP machine? Please teach me.

I believe you simply press the "Print Screen" button.

Larry's Scary Screen Shot Seminar
Pay attention, Larry.
- Press Shift and Print Screen keys at that same time [may take some practice]
- Open Paint, or better still download & install Irfanview -http://www.irfanview.com/
- Press Cntl and V keys at the same time
- Voila! your screen shot is now ready to tweak. You can crop, resize, etc.
- Click Save As and select jpg or png as the file type.

Not sure what fittings you are talking about but i had some screw/fittings work their way out of my 996 rear wing and we had to order them from Porsche. No problem getting them.

Scott, if I'm not mistaken, you have a 996 which has a different rear wing than I have.
Tony, thanks, I'll try and see if I can make it work. Ah, how do I open "Paint"? I'm not sure I even have that program on my computer.

Same fittings as the stock wing have to go in the new wing in order to attach it to the car.

If you need spare wing screws, you probably need a new roof as well.

I guess none of you guys have any spare parts that you keep for backup. Sure.If it's somthing that is known to fall out or fail, I can see having a spare for it. But I can honestly say I don't have spares for a lot of parts on my car, including pretty much all of the specialty fasteners. Good spares to have are things like brake pads/ rotors, relays, etc. And if you race, some spare body panels. And if you have a 944, a spare car

They are not going to be spares. They will be installed in my new wing so I can keep the originals in my stock wing.

Are these fasteners a wear item, or one-time-use? I doubt it. Just reuse them if/when you reinstall your stock wing. No need to maintain two sets. I have two sets of wheels but only one set of lug nuts. Same thing.

Except you don't have to locktight your lugnuts.

Why do you need the orignals in your stock wing? By definition, if they aren't to be used.. they are spares... so your stock wing becomes the spare.. and you take parts from your spare for what you need :p

Larry I think people here are trying to figure out why you can't use the ones on your current wing. If it is because you want to sell the wing with the fittings than that is a legit answer. If the current fittings won't work on the new wing that is fine too. What is your reason for not using the ones on your car now ?
Landjet
02-05-2010, 07:15 PM
It's as simple as this. I want one set of fittings in one wing, and one set of fittings in the other wing. I don't want to have to break locktite fittings in order to change wings. That is all there is to it. Plain and simple.
Do any of you guys lug your TV from room to room when you want to sit somewhere else? No, so you have multiple TV's. For convenience sake I want to have 2 sets of fittings.

PF97's don't squeak that bad but they don't stop the car real well when cold. A compromise I can live with :)

So.. let me get this straight.. you want two sets of fittings... but you only have one.. so you came to the board that has oh.. maybe 1 996TT owner besides yourself on it to check for spares ;)
For the wing that you aren't using.. why do you need to have the fittings in it? Will you be swapping tails? Do you intend to sell your tail "complete"? Or is it because you don't want to break the loctite?
Landjet
02-05-2010, 09:05 PM
You guys are quick. :p
And it only takes one person to say "Yes I'll sell you mine".
VaSteve
02-05-2010, 09:13 PM
The point of loctite is that you can break it if you need to. Otherwise, you'd just weld it in place.
There are a couple used 996 turbos in the 30's. You could buy one as your parts car and take the fittings of that.
Landjet
02-06-2010, 07:59 AM
Funny but to me, guys who spend 10's of thousands of dollars on trailers and tow vehicles when they could just drive their cars to the track, isn't all that different than wanting 2 fittings when I could get by with one. A whole lot cheaper though.

Actually it's fairly easy to find the wing for sale, found plenty at the dismantle-ers, but none of them want to break the fittings out and sell them separately. I'll come up with a set sooner or later.
I haven't really made up my mind what I'll do with the stock wing yet. Have to see how the new one works out first. Probably will keep it and possibly reinstall it when it comes time to sell the car. Who knows.

Almost impossible to find. Fastenal couldn't source these either. Dismantlers have them but will not sell them separately from the wing. Dealers are the same.
