Today I learned (thanks Dave D!) that my rear (and front) wheels are 9" and 8" respectively and that the damn Porsche dealer that sold me the car put on the wrong size tires, I am certain in an effort to save 40 bucks here and there. Altho' all four tires are too narrow (they are P6's - front: P195/65R 91H M&S. Rear:P215/60 R15 94H M&S.)
The tires look like small 'baloons' because they sorta bulge out a bit, i.e. they are not wide enough.
I am wondering what size tires you might suggest for these wheels?
Thanks! TriTom

I would call Radial tire in MD and tell them what rims you have, what they go on and the kind of driving you do. There are no easy answers to tire size and diferent tire profiles and tread shapes can amke one tire fit and another of the same size not.
I can swap those hard to fit 8s and 9s with some nice easy to fitup 6s and 7s if you like.

Pull the wheel, pretty sure they are 7s and 8s. Sizr is on the inside peddle (center cection)

Don't get toooo mad at the dealer. There aren't many wide tire sizes left anymore in 15s. There are 225/50's but thats about it other than the rare contach/rsr sizes that get made once in a while. If you had 16's there are 245s avail for the 8s. You can still find wide 15" hoosiers but Im guessing you're looking for a street tire.

The wheel size is not the width from rim edge to rim edge. It is the width where the bead wall seats. Rims will measure a bit wider if guage them from lip to lip. The best way is to solve is to remove one of each and read the numbers that are hiding in the brake dust on the inside.
I will gladly help you out with a nice looking standard set if you do have those pesky hard to deal with oddball 8's and 9's. ;)

Thnks T-R. Not gonna take your money as you are PROB right! And how neighborly of VG to offer to take those "pesky 8's & 9's" off my hands in the event I am right....I should prob even offer him $$ to do so! ;-)

an '87 targa would have had available a 7 and 8 x 15 wheel combo. IIRC, the factory sizes ARE 195 front and 215 rear. (the size the dealer sold you). A performance "upgrade" would be either 205 front 225 rear or 225s all around. It will be hard to find a 245 width for the rear, in 15" diameter.
On my SC the "street" tires were 205/60 front and 215/60 rear on either 6/7 widths or 7/8 widths. I called them my "buicks" because they gave the car a very nice, soft highway ride.I had a second set for track duty that were wider and lower profile.
I'm would assume the 15" wheels available on an '87 were 6/7, not 7/8, as the 16" "upgrade" was 6/7, too.

15x7&8 or 16x6&7 were the standard choices for Fuchs. Somewhere around '88 16x6&8 Fuchs were available as well. Phone dials were available in 15x6&7.
It's highly unlikely TriTom has 15x8&9 Fuchs on a narrowbody Carrera. I've seen it done but it's an unusual and expensive fitment.

Oh yeah - for 15x7&8 wheels 205/55/15 and 225/50/15 are good tire sizes.

Fuchs 7/8 were available in 15" from the factory or as 16" from the dealer. 6/7x16 were a "factory" option.
Of course, "special wishes" cars could have almost any wheel they wanted.
SC's came with Cookies or Fuchs.. in 6/7 The 3.2s had Phone Dials as a base wheel for several years. They also had Fuchs (15" or 16"). I don't think US market cars got cookies though.
In 1989 the standard Fuchs 911 wheel was 6/8 combo

Whoops. You're right. Phone dials were the base wheel for the Carrera, not cookies.

that's a good and proper size for those wheels (and i agree they are probably 7s and 8s). it's what i run on the street and it makes for a very nice ride. and the tires are quite affordable and last a good long time. on the track you will want something wider but you won't find a 245 in a 15, except for hoosiers. if you do want to go more aggressive consider purchasing some 16" 7s and 8s.
