I'm helping a kid get his grandma's car resurected.

I've condemed the DME which has an internal problem which is shorting the injector pulse terminals top ground which is filling the cylinders with fuel.

I'd like to try and test a known good unit before having him spend his money on a used unit or rebuilt.

If you can help, or might know of a source, please let me know.

This is an M20 engine.

In addition to the above info, is it a stick or auto?

That's a very common E30 325 number.

Here is an ECU in Virginia Beach, VA on eBay starting bid $9.00

There seems to be quite a few with that number.
Is the part number different for automatic?

I'll look at the shop and see if we have one kicking around. If not we have an '89 525i stick that we could sell you.:)

I have one I was going to put on ebay. I got some years ago when I though I had a bad ECU on a 90 325i off ebay for $100. I was hoping to get $50 for it.

Its a Bosch 0 261 200 173

The other sticker has 1720575 001 810
*061.12*
*26RT3388*
*1559000299*

The last sticker has
WBAAA1210L
EC68484
C85E

If you want to try it first and see if that is the problem just let me know.

Mike

You mean the car?
That might be the better logical option, but this car has some sentimental value for the family. It's only got about 67,000 miles on it. And lots of maintenance stuff done at 60k. The only problem is that it sat for a long.....time.

If it is the car, how much?

Mike, that would be great!
PM your contact info.
The dad's name is Paul. He would likely be the one to come get it.

Mike's DME / ECU made the car start right up!!!
I'll try and get Paul co contact you today.

Thanks All!

This is the beginning of several things that need sorting out, but the best thing is that the car moves and it's not stuck in my driveway!

Excellent.

Let us know what else you are tackling ... there seem to be plenty of BMW DIY-ers on here might be able to help.

Next is fixing the flat tire so it doesn't go flop..flop..flop down the road.
I took it for a short spin in the neighborhood and the right front was almost down to the rim within a 1/2 mile.

Brakes are ugly, but seem to work.
The engine was hot by the time I got back.
It has a bit of a miss....
We really didn't make a list of all what needs to be done, because if we couldn't get past this, the rest is not worth it.

Freash tires are the next biggest expense... I hope!
