I scored an aluminum 7' tire rack last year and want to put it in my trailer, what type of fasteners have people used to put theirs in?

No experience with this particular application, but in general we specify stainless steel fasteners for structural applications with aluminum framing.

(Edit: if the connection will not be exposed to weather, you can use regular steel fasteners. If it were mine though, I would still use stianless steel)

For a Haulmark trailer like mine, you can't go deeper than 1.5 inches, or else you'll go through to the outside. I used hex-head self drilling screws. They sell them at Home Depot.

Caution: On my trailer with the aluminum covers on the wall, the studs are not where the screws go in to hold on the aluminum. The first time I used the tire rack, I found this out the hard way. When I arrived at Summit Point, my tire rack was sitting on top of my car, having pulled out of the wall.

I was just not sure the self taping would hold up, guess we will find out soon enough.

DR I'll get pics of the rack AFTER it falls on the lemons car!

Self tapping screws should work just fine if threaded into something suitable (a metal stud)

I used size 14 self-tapping screws on mine (steel frame trailer); no issues. In fact, I keep an assortment of lengths available; never know what will get mounted next...
