View Full Version : CDR-220 vs CDR23 compatibility

My stock 2003 boxster came with a CDR23 which skips CDs occasionally. I decided to replace it, but I wanted to keep Porsche branded equipment so I picked up a used CDR-220.

Turns out they are different enough so that the CDR-220 won't plug-n-play in a 2003 at least because it uses "MOST" circuitry. :bang:

Note the different back panels pictured here with CDR-220 on top, CDR23 bottom.

I should have researched this better, but the antenna connections are different, and there is a plug which sits in the dark rectangular space just off center on the CDR23. That same place is covered on the CDR-220 Notice the connector types in the third pic.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to make the CDR-220 work without too much effort? Otherwise I have a used radio to sell.

Maybe you need to find another Pcar to match that radio!

I see you found the radio removal tools. Hope that didn't take too much searching.

Nope, stopped by the Bestbuy on the way home Sat. morning, and was re-directed to the WalMart across the street. Within minutes had the radio out, but realized my mistake.

Reinserted original radio.

Joe- You selling that CDR-220 then? If so, I'm interested.

AFAIK, the CDR-220 operates like a conventional radio; POS, NEG, speaker connections, antenna, etc. The later "MOST" system radios tie into the car's computer/alarm systems. I would recommend contacting a higher end car stereo store (Myer Emco, etc.) and find out what they do on MOST equipped cars to install an aftermarket radio system. Or maybe check on Crutchfield's website to see what they show available in the way of radios/adapters.

Does the stereo adjust volume based on engine speed? That could be all that connector is used for. I'm just grasping at straws though. Gotta get the post count up :)

BTW, they misspelled Menue. I'd return it :)

I noticed the menue too. :)

The CDR23 doesn't adjust based on speed, although that would be nice. The antenna connector is what I'm wondering about first. Everything else looks like it would at least connect if I tried it, I didn't try it once I noticed the difference.

I'll look around as Tony suggested to see if I can find a solution. Frankly I'm not overly motivated to spend too much $$ on this. So this radio could be back on the block in a week or two. George I'll PM if I do that.

If Lupin passes, please put me 2nd in line. I need one of those too.

Then again, if Lupin takes it, I'll know whose car I need to break into to get my own. :)

I spoke with the guys at Myeremco and they said flat out there's no way. Therefore this unit is on the block, PM sent.
