View Full Version : CVs and all those little balls

Just about drove me nuts today. A few balls dropped out and I put em back in. When I tested the CV after attaching it to the axle it didn't move. So I began to try to figure out why. Those little balls go where they want, not where you want em to go. The CV is just a little bit bigger than the spread on my hand so one ball always wanted to fall out. And, the damn things bounce and the Porsche Gods send em where he wants them to go, not where a normal sane person would think they would go. Anyway, I got it back together but I don't have a clue how I did it, don't think I could do it again, and don't want to. Some days I just hate Porsche's . :(

I think when I need to do this, I'll buy the kit assembled.

I have a clean test CV that I used to bring to Tech for people to play with. Most would line the big slots on the center and outer races and then put the balls in. This can be done but the CV will center in the races and stick. Once you do it a time or 1289 it gets easy.

3 more days and the Clowns.Gov leave for the year. Then this town will get quiet but the markets will heat-up again
