German Auto Group did a great job of resolving an airbag problem with my Audi: http://taylorchapman.com/default.aspx
Taylor works Porsches and Audis, but the shop does lots of BMW work.

Talk to "Clarke" on the board. He's a BMW tech at a shop in Manassas and a great guy as well.

Check out Convenience Car Care in Manasas. The more I use them, the more impressed I am with them. Very honest and price is reasonable.

And the owner, Timmy, is a very cool guy and a helluva drover, too!

What year?
If it is an E39 [1997 - 2003 or 2004] the passenger side seat sensor has a history of failing if you put a knee into it, look at it, breath on it, or sit in it. Throws a code and the airbag / SRS light.
Also, some known issues through electric seats and other places. Try here (http://www.bimmerforum.com) or here (http://www.bimmerfest.com) and the applicable sub-forum(s) and you'll get lots of responses. :)
*Good news ... it is a diy if you are so inclined.

Worst day at the beach is still better than the best day at work.;)
Kids BMW is as much a football bat as my 964..
pulled the seat out, disconnected/checked/reconnected everything, put the seat back in and airbag light is now off....yep I checked to ensure all connections were connected before I pulled the seat..
thanks for everyones inputs
Clarke, I'll call you when it really brakes and I cant finger it out :D

No problem, you know how to get in touch with me. Sometimes checking the connections is all it takes.:)

Craig,
Can you share what you learned? The airbag light is on again on my E36. Both times it has come on my 11 year-old has been in the passenger seat.

On an E36 the most common cause is the seat belt switch/pretensioner assembly.
John,
What I learned uh?...you’re assuming I'm learnable
It was the electrical gremlins I suspect. All I did was remove the seat, pull all wires/connectors, reconnect everything and reset the light using the Peake R5/SRS reset tool. No parts were replaced.
http://www.peakeresearch.com/index.html
When I used the reset tool prior to pulling the seat, the SRS light would blink once but stayed on.
I would recommend pulling the seat, disconnect everything, reconnect everything and see what happens. Assuming you’ve already looked under the seat and made sure everything’s already connected
If the R5 is compatible with your car I'll loan it to you, I'm headed out of town on the 25th for 2 weeks so let me know if you want to try it.
Plenty of smart folks on this site can pipe in but I wouldn’t think just because the light goes on you should fear it deploying...but I'm no mechanic
I had SRS lights on the 528i BMW, Honda Accord and LS 400 Lexus and the only one that deployed was the Lexus..after my 17 y/o ran it into a tree, worked like advertised she didnt received one scratch, the car didnt fair too well, it was totaled

If the srs light is on the bag will not deploy. The system has been deactivated, hence the light.
As for pulling the seat, un hooking and hooking back up, just skip the pull the seat part. Dirty connections are common in the BMW srs world. So are the pretentioners. Don't be surprised when your light comes back on, with the same issue.

Did you have the SRS light on at the time she ran it into the tree, and it deployed anyway? :?
Peter
Peter,
To clarify:
The light on the Lexus was reset by the dealer before the tree incident
The Accord light wouldnt reset, I took it to the stealership and for starters they wanted to replace the module for a cool $800+ and hoped that would fix it, if not they wanted to throw more of my money at it by replacing whaterever else they thought needed replacing. So like a good shadetree DIY'er I went to the junk yard on Rt 234 and pulled one from a same year Civic and for 50 bucks it's good to go.
