Considering swaping stock to either a bursch or ansa. Any opinions on performance and sound? Its a '70 stock '14/4. (ie anemic 1.7)

Why does an anemic 1.7 need a better muffler? Just asking.

I've got a line on both a bursch and an ansa cheap but the stock one is fine. Just looking for some cheap hp.

'Cause a little more hp is better than stock.

stock...cause nothing makes more power on a stock motor...seriously. you might gain a litlle more RPM. but less low end torque.
I have run both stay with the stock unless making engine changes.

I run a stock muffler on my 73 2.0 I never liked the look of the aftermarket mufflers...always seemed to rust quickly. Usually a tail wind gives me more HP than a muffler :) I've got the deluxe 95HP model!!!

Manny, Don't forget that your car has 15 bhp on the 1.7 and if your muffler is rusty, it'd be the only part on your car that is. ;)

stock or bursch. ansa looks corny. have used those and more in the past.

I used to have a 'sport' muffler. Essentially a stock muffler that was opened up and had twin pipes welded into the center. Unfortunately, that rusted beyond repair. Would pay a pretty penny if I could find one in excellent condition.

Bummer, I have a 2.0 Bursch I could have sold you for cheap...but I think it'll only fit 2.0 heat exchangers. I've also heard that the stock one makes the most power.

I'd go with a Burch. It looks cool and sounds pretty good too.

This is what I ran on my '73 2.0L. It was really loud. I thought it sounded pretty good, but it wasn't really practical on the street. Don't know if it gave me more horsepower or not. I do know I never passed anyone on the Summit Point circuit;)

Without going to 2.0 HEs, there is no benefit to an aftermarket muffler. And, from what I've read, the better option is to go to a stock 2.0 system. Well, that is unless you want one of those expensive race header systems.

Tangerine Racing headers and exhaust are pretty nice ;)
