My wife has a 2002 Boxster S with an Aero Kit and we have experienced brake fade three times on tracks. This occurred with and without the bra on the car and even after changing to ATE blue.

My theory is that the air flow is restricted by the Aero Kit. Any suggestions?

Picture of the car is below

Thanks

GT3 cup brake scoops.. Can find them here: http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=P&Product_Code=9963411179299634111892

Also, you failed to mention brake pad type as well as driver style (and skill level) and if a two driver car... The AeroKit does not impede airflow to the brakes imho.

My Non-S, stock bumpers, PF97 wearing, ATE BLue using brakes were great. Never had any fade.

x2, except I think SRF is worth it.

Thanks.

Stock pads. I'm harder on the brakes than she is. I'm in black group and she is in white.

Don't use stock pads, seriously. I used PF97s with SRF and did not have too much trouble. The GT3 cup cooling scoops are worth it as well.

The only time I had a problem with brake fade on my 986S with GT3 nose and pagids was on the South Course at VIR. After I bleed the brakes I was good to go again.

+1 on the GT3 brake ducts. I would be running those if I still had the boxster.

As for castrol SRF, I think it's overkill for the boxster, maybe on a heavier/faster car, but not the boxster.

x2. Track pads would make a dramatic difference also.

Thanks for the gouge.

Those are inexpensive and quick fixes.

IMO and experience on our 996's, no amount of cooling is going to totally prevent brake fade on stock pads. if you're up to speed. +3 on the suggestion for an upgrade to the brand of preference, I had good luck with Hawk + and then Pagid's. Try 997 GT 3 cooling ducts part number 99734143492 twice the size of standard 996, and only $17.00 bucks ea. when I got them at Sunset.:) yes thats a 17.

I have the GT3RS ducts on my car, and cut holes in the plastic fenderwells to pass more cool air to them

I use HPS in the truck and the Boxster which will never see the track again. I believe I will put them in the Audi which will see the track again. I like Hawk and PF for track pads, and would not be inclined to use any Pagid again.

- Up to speed? I think anything over two laps and moderate driving will fade the stock pads.

Another vote for SRF and top-notch track pads such as Hawk HT-10. IMHO, SRF is not overkill for a Boxster, especially one that is seeing double-duty at the track. Brake usage and consequential fade really depend on how each driver is using the brakes. A slower driver may be applying the brakes too much or a faster driver may be applying the brakes too much or maybe the faster driver is not taxing the system but the combination of two drivers is causing issues.

Thanks to all. Great gouge.

Navy term for what are the facts. Sometimes also used for what is the story.

I'm harder on the brakes than she is.

That is surprising. Normally, I find just the opposite. Are you sure? Generally the less experienced drivers carry just as much straight line speed; but, over slow for the corners with increasing pedal pressure.

Doing great; although, an end of track season depression has sort of set in. Will Carol be driving with us next year?

I don't think stock pads are as bad as people say. FWIW, I accidentally used them for practice at the Summit Point race two years ago. Other than a slightly softer pedal, the pads, stock Textar pads that are available for the 993, held up just fine.

That all said, I still run a race pad and have never skimped by using street pads.

Alan, I think part of the problem my be my perception. I was learning the car at Barber. Remember, I am a 944 N/A guy by birth and I was doing the 944 "breathing the brakes" thing at first and found that I had to apply more brake with the "new" speed. The other issue is that our run groups were back to back.

Carol will be driving with us next year. I will be back in a 944 and she will be in her Boxster.

Good deal. If the Boxster is a daily driver, the HPS is a good dual purpose pad. If you want to deal with the hassle of changing pads, put on HT10s as Mark suggests (or PF97s or 01s).

I just used HT10s at VIR. Great track pad. They weren't bad on the street if you could tolerate the noise. I swapped them out to save them for their intended purpose. Probably last me 30 years given my minimal HPDE attendance.

For a second there I though I stumbled into an old P Talk thread. All we need now is the Frog and Don W.

I just added the 997 GT3 ducts to my 996 and it seems to help a bit. They are larger than stock. I bought them through Sunset (Oregon) for around $20 w/shipping. I have a spare set JIC.

Coming from Bob Novas who has the biggest Big Reds that will fit on a Carrera, I think they are probably 15"rotors. Mind you, you are right in that Dave S does not need brakes.
