Got the fuel line and fuel filter hooked up. I don't appear to have any fuel leaks at the moment so that is good. Yesterday I thought it was just a dead battery because it sounded like the car was draining when I turned the key. Hooked it up to the Jeep to jump it and here is what I got:
-Electrical and dash comes on
-fuel pump is whirrling
-oil pressure light is on (I didn't look at the actual oil pressure but I can)
-I can hear a click (like an electrical click)
-but you can't hear the starter
-and it doesn't try at all
-yesterday I know I heard the starter try
I'm taking a break to eat, check the books, and do some searching and then try it again.
Thoughts?

Recheck the conection I had to make at the starter bendix. It is the small wire.

Make sure you actually got the yellow wire's connector onto the solenoid spade, instead of sticking the spade between the connector and its insulation, where it can easily get knocked off. Not that I've ever done that

Yeah I know what you mean.
it was correct, I got to do it on the floor without the confusion of the car being wraped around it.:D

What am I checking? That it is still hooked up?

Rick my bad I was walking the dog.
I checked the connection and all looks good.
But my better half is in class so it will have to wait a few until she gets home.
Anything else I can check in the mean time?

If the conection at the starter looks good, double check all the "bulk" conectors. You know the big square and rectangular ones.
Do you have a volt meter? If so put ot on the batt, and note the voltage. Try and start the car and see if the voltage drops. This indicates power being drawn from the batt. Also check and make sure the conections are tight at the batt. And that my 3 in the fusebox are still in tact. I will be up far a while so call if you need to.

I don't have a volt meter. But I'll recheck the connections again.

Ok the only thing I found was in the front trunk there are 3 wires hooked up to a plastic plug not hooked up to anything. A yellow wire, a black wire and a black and purple wire. The black and purple is the tach. According to the Bentley the yellow goes to the DME. I'm not sure about the third black. All in all there are 3 black wires coming from into the trunk, one thick, and two thin.
Acording to Marc A's site (scroll about 3/4 of the way down) it shows the yellow wire going to the trunk but not getting hooked up? Is it supposed to? If it comes from the DME I would assume so.

Lets focus on getting the starter going first. Since you said it tried to go yesterday we need to figure what is missing today.
Make sure the car in in neurtal (this is very important) (( verry verry inportant))
Use a jumper wire and jump from the big wire on the starter to the little one. You will only need to touch these 2 wires not make a permanent connection. What this will do is to bypass the entire starting system and "hot wire" the starter. It will turn over as soon as the poweis put to the small wire. (the bendix wire) If all goes well the engine will turn over. (this is where the nutral thing comes into play) If the starter turns over we will have a place to start.

sounds like a not quite charged battery to me.

Little wire on the starter was hooked up wrong.
Now we have a not running smoothly issue. But it cranks and tries.:D
Rick, I adjusted the clutch cable and it got a little better. But, with the clutch in or out and the car in neutral the tires spin a little. I'm guessing this is the clutch fork and throwout bearing not being right.

Yeah, thats what I'm thinking:bang:

Well I have about another 1/2" of threads left on the cable. Right now the cable is firm with no play, but I still get the wheel spinning. I didn't want to keep pulling on the cable for that last 1/2" but I will if it might work.
Hey at least it runs. I got it to idle (roughly) for a few seconds last night. I guess my first project after we find a house in TN will be an engine drop.

Did it run and stay running, or did it just attempt to run and then die?
That engine always fired right up.
What about the wires from the DME going to the front trunk. Are they all hooked up?

It tries to run and idles for a little while and dies. You can hear it squeeking though like something just isn't quite right.

I think the fork for the throwour bearing isn't in the bearing correctly. There is a horrible noise when the engine starts It gets softer when the clutch is depressed. The engine fired right up. The trunk wires were no problem.
