997 Gt3 Shifter

Does anyone know if the 997 Gt3 shifter will fit in a 996? Specifically a 996 Gt2. I owned a '05 Gt3 and loved the shift feel, I've been told that this one is improved, if that is so, I'm all in. Here is a photo of the new shifter.

Can't comment on whether it will fit, but can say the 997 GT3 shifter has an awesome feel and very short movement
