DR,
I've got a set of axles with CV's that I've been waiting to put on the '77 Carrera. I believe they are the same as for an SC but not sure. If you need a set before some can be shipped to you, you can come by and get these and then replace them.

Believe it or not, Pelican's prices arent bad on axles. Do you need new units? If only a few races are pitted, joints are much cheaper.

DR, didn't I give you my old SC axle when I swapped in the new ones before Mid Ohio a few yrs. ago?

Word of caution -- I bought one of the axles assemblies from Pelican and the new bolts. After my experience, I recommend buying the joints and rebuilding the axles. You should be able to get the correct Lobro joints through them. On the built up axle the CV joints were about a 1/4 inch thinner (correct diameter) then the original. Every time I tightened an axle to the stub axle the wheel would bind up. That is when I discovered that the stock length bolt was going all the way through and contacting either the trans (on one side) or the carrier on the other. Additional washers under the bolt head cured the length problem.

I just did the same thing - it's actually the boot and flange that are thinner. The axle assemblies come with slightly shorter bolts. You need to use those, although you can put the stock length ones on the transmission side of things just fine. If you want to use the longer bolts on the outsides, you'll need to replace the boot and flange to get the correct spacing.
Also, I was not particularly happy with the grease that came with the assembly: a significant amount of it turned to a tasty black liquid. When I did my engine swap I cleaned it all out and repacked them with some good lubro moly grease.

Thanks to for all the suggestions, info and offers of loaners. Wanted new because of mileage, age of old ones and general conditions of axles. DoubleD spotted the “play” while inspecting my car Thursday night. Left axels actually fell apart while being removed. Both sides are prolly original with lots of track mileage, burn outs, many swaps side to side, and repacking.
I know about the different bolt lengths, and flange widths. But info like that can’t be repeated enough IMO.
I went with Autohausaz.com or more accurately Linda did ;) Just under $500 for both including new bolts and shipping.
RL, I don’t remember getting any axels from you? All the ones out back were from early cars or ’44 crap :p

Alan speaks the truth. Man, did I learn this the hard way. Worse yet, when I discovered the torn boots at a tech session at IMA, Ivan took one of my bolts, matched it and just gave me all I needed. Well, though the new bolts matched the old ones, the CV flanges didn't and so those nice new Wurth bolts were too long. I ended up using washers as shims and it worked fine. But I could not figure out why it was binding up. What a PITA.
