Picked up the 911 from my mechanic last night and for the first time he added " lucas pure synthetic " additve to my mobile one. He says that the EPA has stripped oils of some of their qualities and now he is adding this stuff to all the vehicles he works on. He said that my other option is racing oil as it has yet to be touched by the EPA. Are most people using the additives ? Racing oil ?

I think there was a thread about this a couple months ago. Don;t know who is adding what though.

Tons of info on Pelican as well. It's true zinc (I believe) and a few other items are no longer in most over the counter oils. Adding something (there are a bunch of options) containing these elements will prolong the life of our engines.

Still there just less of them. IIRC Mobil is putting more back in. Not to old levels but improved. As Chris said there is a good thread on the mother board.

I started using GM EOS. You can get a case of it at a time from GM Parts Direct on the www. A pint per oil change is the "wisdom" I gleaned from PPBBS.
Too early to tell if it will make a difference, but I figure there is no way it can hurt.

I've just started using Brad Penn 20/50 raceing oil. It partial syn and has all the old additives, plus it's only ~$36.00 a case.

The recommendation from my wrench is Joe Gibbs synthetic. Says he started using it exclusively in race cars he works on.

Is there a local retailer that stocks Brad Penn?

X2 for adding a dash of GM EOS to my M1...since my puny little 944 oil system doesn't even need a full pint per oil change.

can't beat that kind of CS, and it's only like $33/case.

Jeff is a good guy. The oil is the old Kendall brand, same company, same oil (green), different name. Glad it worked for you.;)

Motorcyle oils still have the zinc (required for long life of non-roller lifters). It was removed to extend cat life. Just buy your favorite brand.
