The last paragraph mentions number "019". I've seen that car ("019" in person at the very private collection of the "american collector". That one, has NEVER been restored. Still has tire marks and oil stains (from competitors) still on the car. The paint isn't in great shape (glazing and cracking) but they will never make another "original" one.. ever... :)

hmm only 2.5 Million? I have heard through the grape vine from several sources that Porsche like to make a call to all those who contemplate selling their rare cars to ensure they are asking "appropriate" money's. Hmm. They didn't call me when I sold my 914 or 911? What gives.

What is curious about the 917, is when you see the famous Picture of 25 of them all lined up for Homologation in late '69(?) and then realize car #'s 19 and 20 for instance, weren't even used until 1971. Porsche sat on the cars either for 1) lack of buyers or 2) to keep them in "factory" hands during their development for quite a while. I imagine this was quite an "expense" to carry on the books back then ;)

Let's do it! We could set up a 501 C3 organization with the goal of preserving classic German cars that are significant to German hertiage. The 917 surely is that. We may even get a grant from private individuals or the Government. Tons of money flows like an ocean we just need to get in its way and capture it.

This could be done!!
