Well, I got some stuff that I needed for the Targa. I got my chin spoiler in and hopefully will put in on along with my son who is on leave from the Navy. :D I also got the driver side switch since my seat won't recline. Then I just went to put gas and the freaking gas flap cable came out! Anyway, I put the new switch for the seat but still the darn thing won't recline. I checked the motors and they are working since I can feel them going when applying power. I do notice a cable that goes to the back of the seat. I wonder if there could be an issue there? I'm pretty sure that most of you probably at some point had to deal with this, any suggestions! Also, on the gas flap, there is nothing on the book that covers this part. I was going to mess with it today but it started to rain :XX I got some wire to get it open, so I could put gas in it. Sorry for the long rant but the day did not help the mood.

most of the early cars don't have power seat backs. Pics of the switches or discription will help.

The gas flap cable should be an obvious and inexpensive fix, especially since you got the hardest part figured out, opening the lid. There is a fixture w/a screw inside the fuel housing and the cable screws onto the knob on the interior.

First, start with the obvious - you changed the seat reclining switch? This is not a simple swap, as this switch is soldered into the seat. Are you 100% you got the switch in right? Is the seat not-working the same way it was not-working before?
The seat reclining in a Carrera is not cable related in any way. I actually disassembled by driver's seat when I first got my car to fix the fact that the seat didn't recline yet I could hear the motor. For a stock 85 Carrera seat, there are two thin flat motors in the seat where it hinges that control the recline. IIRC, they are in the base of the seat. These motors connect to the recline mechanism via 6mm square steel pin. In mine, the left side sheared off. I bought some 1/4" stock from Home Depot, files it down to 6mm, and replaced the missing pins.
It was a PITA. Taking the seat apart, etc. I'd be 100% certain its not an electrical issue before going there.

Yes, I got the switch correctly placed and it is working the same way as before for the exeption of the reclining feature. The motors are working as well. When I stated that there is a wire in the back, I meant that there is an electrical wire that comes from the bottom side of the seat up to the back piece. However, you are right and it may not be an electrical issue. There could be a mechanical problem with the cables that rotate/pull from the motors. I still got to dig in there but since my daily driver is down, I have to use the P car everyday and by the time I get to the house I got no time to mess with it. Thanks for the info!

Ok, so what you mean is to place a screw in the hook that locks/open the flap and wrap the excess wire around it and tighten it? Hopefully I have some time today for this small project, since the seat issue takes more time. Thanks for the suggestion! :D

On the chin spoiler. Borrow your wifes hair dryer to heat the thing. It will aid in making it fit where you will swear it won't.

Thanks OldTee! If the day cooperates, I may tackle it this afternoon when I get to the house. :D
On the chin spoiler - you need to drill 2 holes on the outside surface of the car on each front fender. You can make a template by using masking tape and marking the holes using someone else's car (just remove the 2 nuts and one of the under-valence screws to pull their spoiler out, tape on marking the edge and the seam, and mark the holes). You also need to removed the metal bar protecting your condenser. Someone once told me the easiest way is to remove the entire valence and do it off the car, but I've heard removing the valence is a PITA (as is installing the chin lip - not hard, just a pain).

The Targa has already a chin spoiler but it is all chew up, this is the reason for the new one. So the mounting holes are already in place, I hope I don't have to take the balance out because that would be a real pain. I will take a look, but I think it may not be as bad. Thanks...
