Well today I realized that there is a bunch of stuff I need to fix on my 911. Some is cosmetic, some is mechanical, a lot is oil leaks. I've made a list of the things I have noticed but I am no expert. I was hoping someone with more knowledge and a better set of eyes might help me out and determine what else my car needs. I was then planning to order all the parts I needed and do all the repairs at once. Maybe have a wrenching party. Or I've got a four day weekend coming up that I can start on Thurs night and work straight through till Mon night. I'll drive to someone who wouldn't mind crawling around and helping me figure out what else I might have missed. I also need to know what is the wisest course of action to attack my issues. Here's the list:

Oil leaks
-Valve cover nuts leak onto the headers
-Possible leak from the engine oil cooler.
-Dented oil exit on engine oil cooler
-Oil lines in front of the thermo jerry rigged
-Possible leak from the thermo
-Possible leak from the oil pump cover

Motor
-Oscilating idle between 900-1000 RPM’s when sitting still

Wheels suspension
-Front passenger wheel bearing
-Rear passenger CV boot (I've got the CV boot just never put one on)

Body
-Targa top (down the line)
-Fender to cowl seals (down the line)
-Steering wheel play

Exhaust
-Current 2 into 1 is garage rigged by me and buddy (down the line)
-Would like 2in/2out or custom 2in/1center out (down the line)

What do you guys think?

Is this for street-only? If you are going to be tracking it, some items may need to be shifted on the Priorities list. You could always bring it to the tech Inspection on Feb 24, but that may be too late for you if your 4 day weekend is prior to that.

Oil leaks
-Valve cover nuts leak onto the headers - next valve adjustment will fix.
-Possible leak from the engine oil cooler - could be seal at top (2) or bottom (related to below).
-Dented oil exit on engine oil cooler - bottom of cooler? that's the inlet to the motor from oil tank.
-Oil lines in front of the thermo jerry rigged - most didn't come with front cooler so...
-Possible leak from the thermo - it's either leaking or not
-Possible leak from the oil pump cover - oil pump internal - do you mean the sump cover on the bottom of case?

so... some leaks are ok... except that from the front cooler it will drip (possibly) onto your tire....

engine cooler in/out-let being dented... could be like a clogged artery, not healthy...

valve covers leaking?--- puhhh-lease... no biggie and fixed next time like dr says

plus, it's a big plus... march weather/temp will be fine for semi-adequate cooling... i ran for 2 yrs w/o a front cooler....

wheel bearings (ALL of them)- a must, same w/ cv boot

steering wheel play, probably the plastic collar giving out... they all do.... search on pelican will show a quick/simple/cheap remedy... stick on a metal one and hammer it in, displacing the messed up one.... put wheel back on, good to go

the rest isn't important... unless it rains and you park outside every night

First that freeloader thing annoys me is there a way to send some money w/o entering my credit card info? I don't have paypal and I try to keep my credit card info off the internet.

As for the car all this stuff IS going to get done as I applied for a new job which may involve moving to West Coast. So the cars gotta be up for a little road trip.

For the wheel bearing I know it is the front passenger wheel, but how do I know if it is an inner or out bearing? Also }{ are you suggesting I do both sides at the same time even though there is no noise in the driver side at the moment?

As for the oil leaks the way I usually handle the leaks on the valve covers is to put a dab of silicone on the new nuts when I install them. Is that still the best way to handle that?

The leak from the oil cooler is coming from the bottom right passenger side where the "S" hose is that leads to the tank. The bottom part of that tube is dented and I think there might be a crack there. How do I make sure of that? I am not sure if it is leaking above that inlet or not. Is the only way to check all of that in and around that cooler to do an engine drop?

The leak from the oil lines leading to the cooler, and from the thermo I think are related. I think both are leaking. I am for sure that the lines are leaking and causing a horrible horrible mess. Is it safe to pressure wash the thermo and that area to find out if it is really leaking?

As for the steering wheel play I replaced the stock on with a Momo (can't remember the model, not the Protipio) but it has a Sparco hub on it not the Momo hub. It moves a little up and down. I'll try to describe, if you place your hand behind the wheel at the bottom (closest to the floor) and pull your fingers towards you like you were paddle shifting, the wheel moves slightly up and down. Is that the same fix they address on pelican?

re: bearings.... it's like having tires w/ 20% tread life left and then buying one new tire... you may fix one but the others may not be far behind. you can leave the rears i guess b/c they are more involving but i'd definitely do inners and outers on both sides of the front...

as for wheel-play i was referring to side-to-side play on the column... up/down may be different or just happen to be hub related. how much mvmt? 1-2mm? more?

I am going to order the wheel bearings for both driver side and passenger side as well as some other stuff too. I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with the leaky oil lines. Not many options, either elephant, look for another used set or bet braided lines from Bat Inc.

The steering wheel has a little play up and down, no left to right play. I assumed it was the plastic washer (I think there was a plastic washer).

so... some leaks are ok...

Ahhhh...spoken like a true die hard 911 guy. Sorry, I couldn't resist. I have absolutely nothing valuable to add to this thread.
