I drove my car into Arlington this weekend, so 2 hours going down cause I went down route 7 and sat in all the traffic on Sat evening, and an hour and 15 coming back cause there was no one on the roads. On the way down, no problems everything went smooth. On the way home I was in traffic on route 9 and noticed that when I down shift from say 4th to 3rd and let the motor help slow the car down that it sounded like my belt was squeeking. I noticed that if I kept it at the same RPM's the squeek would go away. Ok, new belt needed not a problem, but I also noticed my oil pressure was pegged at the max. Now my temps never got high at all, in fact they stayed normal. The only thing I remember happening was that I was leaving from a stoplight and had a couple of backfires, then the squeek and oil pressure change started.
I confess I didn't have a chance to look at it yesterday, but I'm thinking maybe the backfires caused the pop off valve to become dislodged (happened in the past) and that I know I need a new belt, but I can't figure out what the high oil pressure would come from.
Anyone?
