My '83 Callaway 944 is alive and it got its first set of Va tags today, now all I need is to get it past a safety inspection so I can drive it while I work out the rest of the bugs. The picture is from the day I got it which was about a year and a half ago, I'll have to snap some new pics of it when I get it back to my house. Only real difference you'll see is it's sitting on 15" fuch's now instead of the ronals.

It's fine here. 100% Porsche car content, until 3 posts after this where it'll inevitably go off-topic.

Can someone recommend performance brake pads for my Honda Pilot?

Sorry, just couldn't resist. :D

Need a bed cover for my F-150, any leads? :p
Good going Danny! This car was likely the prototype of the 951. Turbo setup is similar to 931 so you know it’s Ass. Tuner installed custom dash, seats, brake fan wheels (very heavy), and limited production status makes it way cool. I think he has some data sheets and an old article or two on a web site somewhere?

Think outside the box. I have a 'to size' rubber mat. Lo cost solution. Does the job. I take it out once a year to hose out the crap that collects and rusts underneth.

Speaking of rust. I was thinking of going with a rust color for my dining room. Any opinions?

Really want a cover not just a mat!

Cover or bed liner? If you're lookin for a bed liner why not something like line-x or rhino liner?

DAMN this car is FAST!!!! Took it for a spin down the parkway today and accidently hit 100MPH without even really trying. I think I might be leaning out on the top end though, power curve seems to go flat really quick just past 5000rpms.

Heard you go by  Now everyone just cool their jets. I’m sure he meant it “felt” like 100 mph ;)

Yeah I spent most of the day driving around and just running the engine to get all the crud out. Is it still that loud or did you hear me when I pulled up to drop off the tools I borrowed yesterday? I'm getting the exhaust redone when I get it down here and I'm planning on going from 2.5" to 2.75", replacing the muffler, and adding a resonator. Any recommendations on good replacement mufflers and resonators that won't restrict power, sound decent, and aren't going to cost me an arm and a leg? I was thinking of the typical options, Borla and Flowmaster, but they are kind of pricey and I'm not exactly sure if I'll like how they sound. What's everyone else running? Got any sound clips?

So is this what I have to look forward to? Loud and "feeling" like I am going 100mph?

AznDrgn
12-17-2006, 08:31 PM
Ahhh Rick V, I heard you got a water pumper. You probably won't be nearly as loud and you'll "feel" more like you're going 75 unless you really use your imagination. My car has a few little aftermarket add ons that help the imagination out.

Just saw your sig, did you buy that S out by richmond? What are your plans for it?

Rick V
12-17-2006, 08:37 PM
No the car came from Charlottesville. It belonged to one of my customers. He loaned the car out and it came back worn out. I think it was a money shift. I'm going to bring home a bore scope and look at the tops of the pistons. If they look ok I'm going to do an upperend, then flog the crap out of it. If the pistons look iffy I'm thinking of replacing the engine.

Good luck finding replacement parts and or engines for the S.

Rick V

Well I priced out the valves and such. If I don't need lifters or guides I can re-do the head for about $600. That includes belts and and a valve grind set. Pelican still has stuff. I will do some more serious looking after tomorrow.

Glad you got yours up and running, I hate to see a car sit too long.

I missed the sig line, but thought Ss had the turbo front:? If S then my heads won’t work! Dual cams were the final step before the 3.0. I understand most are “disappointed” with the performance of the Ss? Time will tell.
Danny; only heard you when you were dropping off the tools, but couldn’t resist :p

S has regular 944 front. S2 had turbo front. Look for the "16 Ventiletererer" (or whatever it says) badge in on the front fenders to tell the difference 'tween a 44 and a 44s.

Rick while you're in there doing the head work make sure you replace the cam chain tensioner, guides, and of course chain. That is the major weak point in the 16V setups.

You know about the rod bearings and the oil cooler housing right? But once you get in that far you may as well just rebuild the engine. All that's left are the mains, balance shafts, and a few misc gaskets and hoses.

Ok, sell the '44 and get a Hyundai....

oops, I meant a Turbo or an S2. ;)

Um, let me think.

I had, the belts, cam chain, tensioners, rollers, water pump replaced.

Already done, The PO just dropped off the title and picked up his cash. He handed me a pile of reciepts and the engine was "freshened" less than 15k ago. He nows the term of "Money shifting" I will decide tomorrow what is going to happen with it, I forgot to bring home my bore scope. I'm keeping fingers crossed the pistons are still in tact.

No Peter, he owed me nothing, he is one of my customers from my regular job, not my weekend folks. And trust me he didn't get much from me. DMV will cost me more than the car.
Money shifting is a botched downshift. IE 5th to 2nd, since there is no rev limiter on a downshift the engine can turn painfully high rpm's. When this happens it cost lots of money.
A Pepper car is what Dr. Pepper drives to work, sorry I don't know either

I’m a pickup guy! Just like I’m a meat and potatoes guy. Pickups have true utility unlike SUVs that don’t do anything particularly well except consume petro chemicals.
Mike’s an SUV guy. Even his parents knew it, and got him a jeep out of HS (recently returned to them).
Money shifts happen going up and down. Just look at the 915 shift pattern and think “catastrophic blunder action.” Or simply CPA.
And what Dave wants is a 997 GT3 that someone else will make the payments on if he pulls a CPA in T-9 :)

I do like SUV's. But I like American SUV's. And I like having them, but not using them every day.

Hence the Porsche obsession.

The Jeep will stay in my family for a long long time as a usefull utility vehicle. But not a daily (which I am using it right now and as I sit on the 14th St. bridge, I can see my needle going down).

As for the 997, Dave, I'm sure you can eventually find a sugar daddy to buy you a 997... Linda just might not approve. ;)
